Connexion problem between Chromecast and Google Pixel 8

I just moved and I tried to reconnect my Chromecast with my cellphone (Google Pixel 8). The WiFi changed, it's a private signal provided by my landlord. I did a restart of the Chromecast, I go throught the starting steps but when I finish, my phone see the Chromecast but I can't cast. On its side, the Chromecast stream the basic background with the hour.

I had a message saying I had to autorize Google Cast to access the network informations. When I follow the steps of troubleshooting, everythings seems ok but I can't cast.

Someone knows what is happening?

Hi @MaryyScarlett

That sounds frustrating! Moving can be stressful enough, and then dealing with tech issues on top of it can be a real headache. I appreciate you walking me through the steps you've already tried to reconnect your Chromecast to your Pixel 8 on your new Wi-Fi network. It's great that you restarted the Chromecast and went through the setup process again.

Let's see if we can pinpoint what's preventing casting from working. Here are a couple of things to check:

  • Network Authorization: You mentioned seeing a message about authorizing Google Cast to access network information. Did you complete all the steps within that prompt? Granting this permission is crucial for casting to function.
  • App Permissions: On your Pixel 8, can you double-check the app permissions for the Google Home app? Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > See All Apps (or a similar path depending on your Android version). Find the Google Home app and make sure it has permission to access location and Wi-Fi. Casting often relies on these permissions to work correctly.

It is worth remembering that it is also important to do a factory reset on your Chromecast device and in the Google Home app.

 Chromecast with Google TV:

  1. Make sure the Chromecast device is plugged into a TV and power source.
  2. On the back of the device, press and hold down the reset button.
  3. Wait until the LED blinks yellow, then white.
  4. When the light is solid white, release the button to start the factory reset process.

Android devices:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap the Chromecast device’s tile > Settings.
  4. Select More > Factory reset > Factory reset.

Let me know how it goes, thank you.

Regards,

Mario.

Hello,

Thank you for the details.

I opened the details of Google Home in my parameters and the location is autorized. I do not have the option to force it manually for WiFi thought.

When I go trought the start steps, I connect the WiFi successfully and I get the confirmation of connexion before the message for the network.

The Chromecast show me the generic background and the led is static white.

My Google Home show me the name I gave the Chromecast but I do not see the casting logo.

I'm gonna try to bypass my network with another routeur.

Thank you for that information!

I would like to know more information to pin down the issue so I'm going to ask some questions:

  1. What type of Chromecast do you have?
  2. What are you trying to cast? An app or Google Photos?
  3. Can you tell me more specifically what you mean by background?

Keep me posted, thank you.

Regards,

Mario.
