Let me explain the situation. About a year ago, I decided to turn off the Chromecast volume control because I prefer using the IR on my remote to adjust the volume on my speakers. At the time, it seemed like a reasonable choice for my setup. However, when I started casting content to my Chromecast, I encountered an inconvenience.
While it's not impossible to change the volume on my device, it has become a multi-step process instead of just one push of a button. Even with the Chromecast volume control turned off, whenever I press the volume buttons on my phone during casting, it tries to adjust the Chromecast volume, which doesn't affect the media volume. This leaves me with the need to access a separate control to adjust the media volume during casting.
While this issue might not be widespread, it significantly impacts my personal user experience, and I believe there are others facing the same inconvenience.
I sincerely hope that the volume buttons on my phone could directly control the media volume during casting, just like it does in other scenarios. This change would greatly enhance the overall usability and convenience of the Chromecast experience.
As a devoted user of Google Home products, I have always admired the team's efforts in creating exceptional user experiences, and I trust that the team's expertise can find a solution to address this matter.

Hi ULTR4_DEV,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. You must be a developer since you managed to turn off the Chromecast volume controls. For normal functionality, it shouldn’t be turned off. For developers, check out these resources: Google for Developers and Supported Media for Google Cast. Let us know if you still have questions.
Thanks,
Kimy

Sorry i have been pretty busy at work, i am indeeed a developer. But what im talking about is the setting that switches the volume controll to IR only on the remote. I use this combined with my Logitech Z906 speakers. Since the controller can use IR to controll the speakers it has disabled the volume controll on the chromecast. But the problem im experiencing is the fact that when im casting from my phone to the TV and watching some other media on my phone, and then try to change the phones media volume it tries to change the chromecasts volume even though it doesnt work. I will see if i can get some screenshots to explain better!

Hi ULTR4_DEV,
Thanks for the details. I’m glad that you mentioned that it happens during casting. Casting is a command sent from the casting source to the Chromecast device, which doesn’t require pairing with the other output device for its specific controls. The Chromecast Voice remote would require pairing of output devices, hence the control. Let us know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Kimy

The issue is with my android phone. I use the chromecast remote to change the volume on my sound system using IR. because of this i have disabled chromecast volume control through its settings. But when i cast from my phone to the TV it still tries to change the volume on the chromecast even though it is disabled.

Hi ULTR4_DEV,
It doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s something wrong with your Android phone. It’s just that it is expected from the casting source to control the casting destination, which is the Chromecast device, but not similar to how the remote can control other devices that were paired to it. After all, you did not pair your phone to the TV, soundbar, etc. like you did with the remote. I hope this clarifies the confusion. Let me know if you still have questions.
Thanks,
Kimy
