Expanding Chromecast storage

I've had a good look through the previous posts already but can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I have a hub and connected it inline with the CCwGTV. It powers on as expected. I've inserted the flash drive, and it's found it, and asked to reformat it. All seemingly went ok. Then it comes to reboot itself, and while the flash drive is connected, it keeps rebooting.

If I unplug the flash drive it boots up correctly.

Ultimately I guess my question is, what's the maximum capacity allowable for the memory expansion? I'm wondering if my flash drive is too large at 2T.

I know a lot of mobile phones have an upper limit. Is this the case for CCwGTV also? If so what is that your limit?

Maybe as it's continuing to reboot it's the plug I'm using a 2A plug?

Hi LedFlava,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Connecting external USB hubs for storage expansion or peripheral devices to a Chromecast with Google TV is a hit or miss. These kinds of setups aren’t intended for the general use of Chromecast with Google TV. There’s no guarantee that they will work. Some users managed to pull it through, but we don’t normally recommend it as it may affect how the Chromecast device works. Kindly check out this basic guide: Move files from and to your Chromecast with Google TV.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have questions or concerns with your Chromecast device.

Thanks,

Kimy

Thanks Kimy, but my question wasn't whether it's possible or not. My question was where there was a maximum capacity that can be used. I've had success with smaller capacity flash drives (64gb) but was asking if there is an upper limit as a 2tb drive didn't work. So the assumption is that somewhere in between would be the limit, it whether it may just be a matter of increasing the power input

Hello LedFlava,

Thanks for the reply. Since it’s a hit-or-miss, I suggest you take a trial-and-error approach. I didn’t see anyone posting information about the largest capacity that they managed to pull through. Even the support team has no information about this. I hope you figure this out and create a new thread to share with other users who might also want to know.

Let us know if you have other concerns with your Chromecast device.

Cheers,

Kimy
