External storage (USB drive).

I installed a hub and a micro SSD card (USB drive) on the Chromecast TV, but I can't move the data to the USB drive. I use a Digital Signage application (Yodeck). I was able to install the application on the USB drive, but I can't move the media (videos) to that storage.

Hi Zrttn,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulties moving your media to your Chromecast when using a USB. No worries; I'm here to help. Just to get started, I'd like to confirm some useful information that will allow me to provide you with the best troubleshooting steps. Can you help me answer the next questions?

  • Do you have a Chromecast dongle or a TV with Chromecast built-in? What model is this device?
  • Are you seeing any error messages when trying to move your media?
  • Where are you connecting the USB?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Zrttn,

Thanks for your prompt response and for clarifying this information!

Here are the correct steps to share media with your Google Chromecast with Google TV:

  1. Connect your Chromecast with Google TV to your TV’s HDMI port.
  2. Connect the USB-C hub to your Chromecast device.
  3. Plug the USB-C charger into a power outlet, then connect it to the power delivery port of the USB-C hub.
  4. Connect your USB storage device to the hub. You’ll get a prompt to reformat the storage device.

To ensure this works, you'll need:

  1. Compatible USB-C hub with a power delivery port
  2. USB-C charger (higher than 1.5A / 7.5W)
  3. Portable storage devices, such as a USB stick or SD card (For USB storage devices, you need USB 2.0 or faster speeds).

If you have followed the exact steps and the situation persists, let me know, we'll try something else together. If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Olá, Nery. Desculpa pela demora em responder. Somente hoje consegui testar.

Hi Zrttn,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I just want to confirm one thing with you. Are you trying to keep this USB drive as permanent or secondary storage for the Chromecast?

If this is the case, adding external storage isn't supported by Chromecast with Google TV. You can move your files using a removable storage device, get data from your Chromecast, and import files to it. But there's also no guarantee this method will work in all types of setups and scenarios.

I hope this information works for you! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.
