Gemini on 4k streamer

Gemini for TV stuck on “Download or enable the Google app” on Google TV Streamer (Canada, everything up‑to‑date)

Hi,

Gemini for TV seems partially enabled on my **Google TV Streamer 4K**, but the setup flow is stuck and unusable.

When I open the Gemini app from the apps list on the TV, I get this screen and I cannot really interact with it:

> “Download or enable the Google app

> Gemini mobile app requires the Google app. You can download it or make sure it’s enabled from the Play Store.”

The “Go to Play Store” button does nothing / is not usable, and I can only back out. Gemini never finishes setup and never becomes usable as the voice assistant on the TV.

Here are all my details:

- **Device:** Google TV Streamer 4K

- **Region / language:** Canada (French), Montréal

- **Android TV OS build:** UTTK.250729.004

- **Gemini app on TV:** 1.0.795460806 (com.google.android.apps.bard)

- **Google TV Home on TV:** 1.0.831564664

- **Account:** personal Google account (not Workspace), adult, based in Canada

- **On my phone (same account):**

  - Google app installed and up‑to‑date (works normally)

  - Gemini mobile app installed, **Gemini paid plan**, working perfectly

What I already tried:

- Changed system language on the TV (English US / French Canada) and rebooted

- Cleared cache and data for: Gemini app (TV) and Google TV Home

- Verified that the Google TV Streamer is correctly added to a home in the Google Home app

- Checked for system updates (firmware is up‑to‑date)

- Developer options are enabled, but no extreme tweaks (no ADB/root, no custom ROM, etc.)

I **do not** have a second Google account to test with, and on this device, removing my current account forces a full factory reset (“Remove and reset device”), which would wipe all my app configs. Before doing that, I’d like to know if this behaviour is a known **backend bug with the Gemini for TV rollout** and if there is anything you can do on the server side for my account / device.

Questions:

1. Is this “Download or enable the Google app” screen a known issue for users who already have the Google app and Gemini working on their phone with the same account?

2. Can you check/refresh the Gemini for TV entitlement for my account and this device?

3. If I factory reset the Google TV Streamer and set it up again with the same account, is there any indication that this will actually fix the issue, or is it likely to come back?

I can provide additional logs, screenshots, or whatever is needed.

Thanks a lot for your help

Hello @Zefred,

Thank you for posting on the community such a detailed and comprehensive report on your Gemini for TV setup issue. I understand that the setup flow on your Google TV Streamer 4K is stuck on the screen requesting you to "Download or enable the Google app," despite having everything correctly set up and running on your phone and having tried extensive troubleshooting. Let me help you with this.

  • Please be informed that Gemini for TV is currently in a gradual rollout phase. During this period, users may still experience issues, such as the incomplete setup loop you are encountering, or limited functionality as we stabilize the feature across different devices and regions.
  • No Immediate Fix/Timeline: At the moment, we do not have an exact timeline for when this rollout will be fully completed and the features will stabilize for all users. The specific error you are seeing is a known symptom of this ongoing rollout and provisioning process.

We advise against performing a factory reset at this time, as the issue is likely server-side.

You will receive a notification directly on your device once the rollout is finished and the Gemini for TV feature becomes fully available and stable for use on your Google TV Streamer.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to finalize this deployment. If you have any other questions about your Google TV, please let me know.

Regards,

Kevin
