Google TV Steamer keeps turning TV back on

2nd attempt at this same concern

I've been dealing with an issue since I got my Google TV streamer around it launch date.

After watching TV for a while, I turn the TV off. 10 secs later the TV turns back on. After immediately turning the TV back off , it stays off.

I've changed it from a HDMI port on the back of the TV to the a HDMI port going through my sound bar. Both have the same results.

I move the TV streamer from my main Sony TV(OLED) to a older Samsung (Plasma) and the trouble follows the TV stream .

I plugged my Chromecast with Google TV in the same Sony TV and it doesn't experience the same trouble.

Hi farrock02,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your Google Chromecast turns your TV on automatically 10 seconds after you turn it off. I'm happy to assist you! Before I proceed, I need to ask a few questions to better understand the situation.

Does this inconvenience happen consistently, or is it random? When did it start?

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Hello Manuel. This issue has been constant since I got the device in September last year.  Every time I turn the TV off , I have to wait around in my living room to make sure it stays off. Most times it stays off after the 3 time

Hi farrock02,

Thanks for your reply. Have you tried rebooting? If not, I recommend you try it. Please visit Reboot your Chromecast device; this helps so much to remove glitches.

Let me know if that helps!

Regards,

Manuel

As mentioned this issue has been happening since the got the device in September 2024. I've rebooted, power cycled and factory reset the device multiple times.

Question for you. Do you have access to one of these devices to troubleshoot on your end ? If not can you get with someone who does ?

Hi farrock02,

Thank you for your reply. In response to your question, yes, I can help you resolve the inconvenience. I'm happy to assist you! I have a question for you: is your Google TV streamer connected to a wall outlet, or is it connected to a USB port on your TV? If it's connected directly to a wall outlet, please try connecting it with a USB cable directly to your TV. Conversely, if it's connected to a USB port, please try connecting it directly to a wall outlet. This will help us determine if your TV supports CEC. I recommend you visit "What is CEC?"   to learn more about it.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Manuel,

That does not answer my question. Please review and respond.

"Question for you. Do you have access to one of these devices to troubleshoot on your end ? If not can you get with someone who does ?"

-The Google TV streamer does not function on USB power on the TV. It specifically tells you to plug directly into a wall outlet.

- I am fully aware of what HDMI CEC is. Yes my TV supports it. The Google TV streamer is using HDMI CEC to restart my TV multiple times. As mentioned in my original post, this issue follows the Google TV streamer on 2 other TVs in my house. Those same TV have Google Chromecast with Android TV connected to them. This issue only happens when the Google TV steamer is connected.

Again... Please respond to my question about. If you do not have access to one of these TV streamer to troubleshoot, we are just wasting time.

Hi farrock02,

Thank you for continuing to respond to my questions. I apologize, but I don't have direct access to your device to resolve this inconvenience. I'm here to help you find the cause of your inconvenience. I have a question: do you know how to enable CEC in your TV settings? If you don't know how to configure this, I recommend contacting your TV manufacturer. I have another question: when you turn off your TV and Chromecast, do you use the voice command or the power button on the voice remote?

I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Manuel,

HDMI CEC is enabled on all of my TV's. If it wasnt there would be no way for the Google Streamer to turn my TV back on. This type of question is exactly why im asking you if you had one of these devices to use when troubleshooting. At this point we're just wasting time.

Just to answer your 2nd question. The majority of the time I turn evrything off by using the power button on the  Google TV streamer. Other times I use my voice on Nest displays. the results are the same.

Im probaly gonna have to just request a replacement device. I dont want to waste more time in this chat when you dont have a device to test with. Plus im pretty sure Google is going drag me through all these same questions when i request the replacement
