Google TV Streamer and Chromecast with Google TV are having issues at detecting UVC webcams

In order to use a webcam on both devices, a USB-C on the Go cable is necessary, however, both devices seem to have issues to detect a connected UVC webcam.

I have three different UVC webcams, a Logitech C270, a Logitech C615 and a generic webcam.

Regardless of what camera I connect, both devices are not detecting them all the time, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes unplugging and re-plugging them make them work and sometimes it doesn't.

I mainly use the cameras with Google Meet, so I can see the camera working when I open any contact where a preview of the camera appears so that's how I know they work.

I don't think there is a low voltage problem here since I use the power adapter that came with both devices and I honestly haven't seen this issue with other Android TV or Google TV devices I've had in the past where a USB on the Go cable is necessary.

I hope that this is investigated by the engineering team because I would like to use the cameras anytime I need to make a videocall to my relatives just the way I've done it with the other devices I've had.

Hi  @branches78,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. Im sorry to hear that you are not able to use your webcams with your Google TV Streamer. I'll be more than glad to give you more information about the Google TV Streamer.

Broadcasting online material is the main purpose of the Google TV Streamer. Not all USB devices are compatible or formatted in a way that the Google TV Streamer can recognize. File formats, device partitions, or even incompatibilities between the Google TV Streamer and the USB device may prevent the Google TV Streamer from working with the device properly.

Don't hesitate to keep posting if you need more help.

Regards,

Derick.

Hello Derick.

Thank you for your response, however, ALL Android for TV devices regardless if they use the Android TV UI or the Google TV UI are fully capable of handling a webcam, even the less powered ones, for example, I have a Realme Stick with a slower chipset and less memory RAM than the Streamer and all webcams I've tested have been working correctly, therefore, the Google TV Streamer cannot be the exception to this.

Can you please forward this issue to the appropriate team for review?

Thanks.
