Google TV Streamer audio sync issue

Skywalker27k
Community Member

I use YouTube, Prime, Disney and Crave.

  • Audio is never perfectly synced. When it is optimal after a reboot the audio is very very slightly delayed. If I compare on a fire stick or on native apps on my Samsung tv the audio is perfectly synced.
  • After some time the delay increases up to 1 or 2 seconds. At least once every day I need to restart the google streamer. Reboot fixes the issues but there is still a very small delay as mentioned in my first bullet point.

EDIt: I have tested the Streamer on a second TV (2017 Panasonic 1080p) and the audio sync issue is there too.

Same problem here, audio sync to my LG OLED TV is very problematic. Other streaming devices plugged into the same TV do not exhibit this issue.

Team is aware and is exploring the issue !  I'm escalating this to the team!

Thanks. Please keep us informed. For now I stopped using the streamer.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the audio not syncing on your Google TV Streamer when using Youtube, Prime, Disney, and Crave. I am here to help you and find a solution together.

To assist you further, please provide me with the following information:

  • Is your Google TV Streamer connected to a 5 GHz network?
  • Is your Google Home app up to date?
  • Is your smartphone running the latest software update?
  • What is the firmware version of your Google TV Streamer?

Additionally, you can try to do a factory data reset. You can click on this link. Google TV Streamer (4K), and if you are unsure about the firmware version of your Google TV Streamer, you can check on this link. Chromecast firmware versions

Thank you for your attention; let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

  • Yes 5Ghz. Tested speed on the streamer is 360Mbps constant. I have no internet issue, fast loading and no buffering interruptions.
  • Yes Google Home app up to date
  • Yes smartphone up to date but unrelated to the issue. I was not broadcasting, just using Android TV apps.
  • GTV Streamer version: UTT3.240625.001.K5

By the way I have another ticket open for video drop frames: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Google-TV-Streamer-drop-frames-on-all-videos/m-p/64...

Same! And specifically, the video is AHEAD of the audio.

Same issue here, audio is out of sync with video feed. As other have described video is ahead of the audio.

FWIW - It appears that the issue may only occur (for me at least) when setting the "Volume control" option to "Google TV Streamer". I only started to experience the issue shortly after (within 24 hours) switching to that option. And once I switched back to the "Auto (CEC)" option the problem went away - no reboot required. Working fine since (about 24 hours now). Will post here again if the problem returns.

Where is that setting?

I found the setting in remote and accessories @thejeffbeck . However @gandalfbets mine has always been on auto. It does not fix the issue. I suspect this is equivalent to rebooting the Streamer, are you sure you don't have a slight delay around 100-200ms? Not everyone notice

Correct - it's a setting for the remote. And as to still having a "slight delay" - all I can say is that if there is one, it is now imperceptible to me, even after almost 2 days of use. Whereas before I reverted that option, it had become very obvious after less than a day.

Same audio sync issue's here.

Short of trying a different television all together and/or alternative HDMI cable, I can't find away of making the problem go away or improve.

I recall an issue with the Chromecast 4k however, switching the output types fixed it. No dice on the Google TV Streamer.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out, I understand that you are having inconvenience with Google TV Streamer audio sync. I know that this can be frustrating. I am happy to help with this. I need to ask some questions to understand the situation better.

  • Can you provide us a video of the issue? This would be extremely helpful in diagnosing the problem.
  • Please provide the model names of your TV, soundbar, and AV receiver.
    • What is your setup like?
      • Is the Google TV Streamer connected directly to the TV?
      • Is there a soundbar or AV receiver connected to the TV?
      • Are there other devices connected to the soundbar or AV receiver?
      • What kind of cables are you using ( eARC or ARC, optical audio cable)?

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Hi,

  • TV: Samsung S90D. I also tested my old TV: Panasonic AS540 from 2015. Issue happens on both TVs.
  • Setup is simple: no soundbar, no AV receiver, no Bluetooth speaker.
It is just the Streamer and the TV. I have tested multiple HDMIs and even purchased a new one HDMI 2.1 with gold plated ends.

I also have a Chromecast with GTV and it does not have the issue on the same TVs.

Note that I have opened another ticket about video dropframes. Both issues are probably linked. Could be about bad hadware decoding implementation, as I have also noted in my other ticket that Youtube is only outputing 1080p and having dropframes, which does not make sense because my other devices at home output 4K on youtube (Fire stick, Samsung TV native youtube app).
The ticket: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Google-TV-Streamer-drop-frames-on-all-videos/m-p/64...

@maedacortez  do you have a status update? I think it is an issue for everyone.
Please also try to reproduce dropframes and viewport stuck in 1080 mentioned in my other ticket: just display the youtube stats for nerds and you'll see it.

Hi there,

Thanks for your question. We already verified your case, and it seems that our higher department is already aware. Please be pending for any future updates. I recommend you visit this post.

Regards,
Manuel

No other devices connected in any way

I believe I have answered all your questions.

It worth noting that I have reduced picture quality on the Google TV Streamer and have seen some improvement however, this is still issue enough to bug the **** outa' you!

Hi Manuel , I appreciate you checking in. It's difficult to get a video of the problem. But it's pretty simple, the video is ahead of the audio. You'll see the lips move of a person talking, then hear the corresponding audio 100ms or so later. All of the "audio sync" options on the TV allow me to delay the audio to match, but in this case the audio needs to speed up.

TV is a Samsung QN65Q60TAF, Soundbar is a Samsung SA61A. The Google TV Streamer is connected directly to the TV via HDMI (recent cable). The Soundbar is connected to the TV via HDMI using the eARC hdmi port. There are no other devices connected to the soundbar or the TV. I did not have this problem when using the same configuration and my 2nd gen chromecast. I also don't have any problems with audio delay when using the TV's smart features.

Please let me know if there is other information I can provide.

I bought 2 Google TV Streamer
First one works fine with Vizio M420SL
But the second one works with Philips 24PFH4252/96 not good.
The audio and video is not synced.

Having the same issue with Panasonic Viera TV, lip sync frustrating. Tried changing many settings on TV but no change.

Having the same issue with a Samsung S95B TV and a Samsung HW-Q60B soundbar.  Streamer connected directly to the TV using a Google HDMI cable.  Soundbar connected to the TV via HDMI ARC.

I also have this issue. All apps updated, but still lip sync issues. Never had lip sync issues with Fire TV Stick.

TV: LG OLED ; Soundbar: SONOS Beam, directly connected via HDMI on my TV.

Does any one else notice dropped frames and youtube not actually outputting 4K?
There might be actually be an audio/video performance issue.

You can check the dropframes number on youtube following these steps:

  • Open youtube on the Streamer plugged on a 4K TV
  • Play a 4K video
  • Display the "stats for nerds" in the Player options (or "advanced stats" depending of your language)
  • BUG 1: Viewport is stuck to "1920*1080" (even thought selected resolution is 4K)
BUG 2: dropped frames keep increasing. Test at least 5 minutes.

Same issue here. Been using older google TV with no issues. Hooked up the Google streamer and have a terrible delay from the lips moving to hearing the audio. Nothing hooked up in line. Just the streamer an to HDMI1 and the TV speaker. Please advise when there will be a fix as i will be going back to my old set up till this gets fixed. Hard to believe this problem was not caught before the Streamer was released.

Ozeland..what type of tv are you using?  The team is trying to identify why this is happening, as it is not with all devices.   For example my setup (Samsung sb95b tv with Vizio soundbar) works perfect, no delay whatsoever.

Same here on multiple TVs.  No AV equipment.

Is there a timeline for when this is getting fixed? Ridiculous

Right!? Isn't it crazy that a major bug like this doesn't seem to be a priority to Google. For me, it is literally unwatchable until it's fixed. It's disappointing.

Yes please give us an ETA

ETA please

This is a long way from satisfactory. While some media channels have reported Google have admitted this is an issue, I can't believe Google didn't already know it was a problem.

As I said in my previous post, I did experience an issue with the Chromecast 4k. But simple switch if of all but DTS. Fixed it. Fine I'm happy with that. But when you the changes on the Google Streamer, it struggles even to hold in them and switches back to default.

Evidence of the issue. Google Streamer. Philips Ambilight. Sonos Arc.

The problem is they are trying to figure out why it's happening, as it is not happening with all devices.  Google is looking into it, they have  also posted that they are looking into a fix , but there is no ETA as there is no clear cause - https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Regarding-audio-and-video-not-synced-with-Google-TV...

I'm inclined to think there is a bad batch of sorts. Something on the board is wrong.
