Google controller unable to control TV volume with CEC enabled

Hi! I have a Samsung UE46d8005 TV with Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) enabled. The TVs sources confirm the Chromecast is connected via CEC.

When my Google Chromecast 4K is plugged in I am unable to control the TVs volume with my Google controller. I have made sure that Google TV has sound set to "Automatic (CEC)".

The Google controller controls volume with the "Chromecast" volume setting just fine, so the controller is functional, but this solution would force me to blast the TVs own volume while lowering the Chromecasts for the intended effect. This is not great for use of other connected devices with the TV.

The TVs own controller controls volume just fine, and also controls Google TV when CEC is enabled.

Hope you can help!

Hi, @DivadC,

Thank you so much for posting in the community. I’m truly sorry that you can’t control TV volume with CEC enabled. We'll definitely work together to find a solution.

To help you resolve this issue, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

  1. At the top right of the TV screen, select Profile.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Remotes and Accessories.
  4. Select Set up Remote Buttons.
  5. Select Volume Control.
  6. Select Chromecast Volume.

If the issue persists after following these steps, follow these additional steps:

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana.

Hi Ana

As I already wrote in my post your suggested solution is not a solution at all. I want to control the TVs volume, not the Chromecasts. Your solution is not suitable for me as I need to crank up the volume on the TV to have the wanted range of volume through the Chromecast, which screws with other connected devices (because I have to turn up and down the TVs volume everytime I go from Chromecast to another device).

The remote and Chromecast works just fine, including the volume buttons, so re-pairing it is useless.

This was all aleady stated in the original post.

Hi, @DivadC,

Thank you so much for your response. I'm truly sorry that you're still unable to control your TV with Remote Audio. I’m happy to provide you with further assistance.

Here's how to add Remote Audio to control your TV:

  • Turn on your Chromecast.
  • At the top right of your TV screen, select your profile.
  • Select Settings
  • Select Remotes & AccessoriesSet up remote buttons.
  • Add a device > your device typeyour device brand.
  • From the remote control setup screen, you can select:

If you receive any error messages during the setup process, you can refer to this article: Troubleshoot problems with volume, power, and input.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana.

It already has volume added for the controller - and it doesnt work when you select "Volume (CEC)".

Whenever I try and set up a new remote button, i get to choose from TV, AV-controller and Soundbar, but choosing either or does nothing. It just goes back to the screen where I choose to set it up.

Not sure how to move on from here...

Hi, @DivadC.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with Remote Audio. I am happy to provide you with further assistance.

To isolate the issue with your Remote Audio, we need to perform a factory reset to the Remote Audio and pair it again. After that, attempt to add the Remote Audio to control the TV one more time.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana.
