Google streamer remote with Home App

I got the streamer about 2 months ago. On my pixel 8 I was able to control the streamer with the remote via the Google home app. I now have a Samsung. I have the Home App installed and it can see the streamer fine, it shows the volume option, casting option but the remote function does not work. When I tap the open remote option it says "Not available. Can't see Google streamer on this WiFi network. Check that it's online and that your phone or tablet is connected to the same WiFi network". Any solutions?

Hi @Stephanenny,

Thanks for posting to the community! I understand that while you could easily control your Google TV Streamer with your Pixel 8, your new Samsung phone is having trouble with the remote function. Even though the Google Home app recognizes the device for volume and casting, it gives you a 'Not available' error specifically for the remote function. I know how much easier it is to navigate with your phone than it is to hunt for a physical remote. Don’t worry; I’m here to help!
To better assist you, I’d like to gather a bit more information:

  • What is the model of your TV?
  • Is your smartphone's operating system up to date?
  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • Does your Samsung have 'Nearby Device Scanning' enabled?
  • Do you have any VPN or Ad-Blocker (like AdGuard) active on your Samsung?
  • Is your WiFi network 'Private' or 'Public' on your phone settings?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Regards,
Beula

Phone os is up to date

Home app is up to date

Device scanning is enabled

No vpn or ad blocker in place

I'm using my homes WiFi network for both phone and streamer and both are correctly connected to it

Hi @Stephanenny

Thanks for the response and the information provided! I recommend following these steps to resolve the issue you're experiencing with your Samsung virtual remote:

  • Restart the phone
  • Restart your Google TV Streamer by following these steps:
    1. Unplug the power cable from the streaming device.
    2. Leave it unplugged for one minute.
    3. Insert the cable back into the streaming device.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Ensure that your Google TV Streamer is running the latest software version.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Beula
