I have a: Sony TV. It has Android TV on it. It would be nice if the Chromecast remote that I bought separately from the Google store could be setup on my TV. I know that I could set it up with a Chromecast and that would be nice but I don't have one.

Your TV already has a remote and its functionality is superior to the Chromecast remote.
First, you have to know that Google Chromecast remote use Bluetooth technology.
Now, what you can try, is to connect the Chromecast remote to your Sony smart TV via Bluetooth and see if it works.
Alternatively, you can control your TV using your phone, by installing a compatible remote application.

I believe my Chromecast remote is superior due to the fact that it can control my stereo whereas my TV remote cannot

If your TV has HDMI CEC protocol built-in, you can use your TV remote to control CEC enabled devices.

This is definitely something I have thought about however I am using an older Bose soundbar which has absolutely no HDMI CEC functionality but it sounds magnificent

Hey there IvanObinyurbut,
I think that would be a fantastic feature as well! If you have the chance, would you be willing to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know about your idea? While they won't respond directly back to you, they take every bit of feedback seriously.
Thanks for posting your suggestion!
Best regards,
Jeran
