Haunted Chromecast with Google TV! ?

Redtop71
Community Member

Every night at 10.03 no matter what I am watching the Google goes back to the homepage.

At 10.04 if I am on the homepage, it will switch off. If I am on a streamer it will go back to the homepage.

Every single night! I have checked, double checked, gone through everything I can find in settings but to no avail.
Can someone help me fix this please?

Hi Redtop71,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand your Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is consistently returning to the homepage or switching off every night at specific times (10:03 PM and 10:04 PM), regardless of what you're watching. I can see why your TV would feel "haunted" and be very disruptive, especially since you've already checked all settings without success. I'm here to help you investigate and find a solution.

This kind of consistent, time-based behavior often points to a scheduled action, even if it's not immediately obvious in the settings.

To help me understand what might be happening and provide you with the best troubleshooting steps, I'd appreciate it if you could answer the following questions:

  • Have you checked for any scheduled routines or automations in the Google Home app that might be set to run around 10:00 PM? This includes routines that might be designed for "bedtime" or "sleep," which could be affecting your entertainment devices.
  • Do you have any other Google Assistant-enabled devices (like a Google Nest speaker or display) in the same home that might have routines or settings impacting the Chromecast?
  • Have you checked the screen saver or power-saving settings specifically on the Chromecast with Google TV itself? While you mentioned checking settings, sometimes there are specific options related to display or inactivity that might be triggering this, even if the timing is oddly precise.
  • Is the Chromecast powered directly from a wall outlet using its original power adapter, or is it powered via a USB port on your TV? Sometimes inconsistent power can lead to unexpected behavior, though the exact timing suggests a software trigger.

I'll look forward to your response so we can work towards getting your Chromecast to behave as expected.

Best regards,

Virna
