Watching some streams I always cast the tab, then fullscreen the video and it optimises (making the original screen black and showing the full quality vid on my TV). This has always worked perfectly.
However the streamer must have changed the player they use and now all chrome will do is try to cast directly from the video rather than the tab (even though cast tab is selected in the chromecast options).
However, this results in a "clappr" message on the screen and nothing else. So I can watch the video on my desktop fine, but have no way of casting it because Google has decided it will cast directly from the video, rather than casting the tab.
This is infuriating, how can I override this/force it to cast the full tab? I have tried using my phone but the same result (and I don't want to cast from my phone anyway, it sucks for controlling the timebar on long videos).
Various iterations of this question have appeared over the years, some with changes to flags being suggested, but I can find no solution that works.
Why, in this instance, are Google trying to override what the user has instructed it to do (i.e. cast the tab!).

Hello ewba,
Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about that. Please make sure the Chrome browser is updated. Rebooting your Chromecast and laptop might also help.
If the issue persists, use a different laptop or computer and perform a factory reset on your Chromecast.
Regards,
Jennifer

Hello. No none of this worked, it is not an error issue, it is a conscious decision that your developers have made - to cast the video directly instead of casting the tab when certain video players are present (in this case Clappr). The tab casts fine until I click play on the video, and then it tries to cast directly instead of casting the tab. Casting tabs on other websites works just fine.
This is something developers at Google have decided to do for some reason. Like Microsoft, Google is trying to do things automatically instead of doing what it is told to by the user.
The website is www.nhl66.ir
Please see for yourself what the issue is. I am aware that numerous other users of that site are encountering the same problem.

Yes, I’m in the same boat with the same site (blacked-out Colorado fan). We’ve tried flipping various switches with no success.

Am I going to get any assistance on this? Why have google devs decided that the chromecast should override my instruction to cast the tab?
