Iplayer not working with Chromecast

Hi there

I recently bought the Chromecast with Google TV and everything has been grand for weeks, including the BBC iplayer app but this past week it has stopped working and says, "could not connect to bbc iplayer servers".  I can cast the app from my phone to my tv but I really bought the Chromecast so I can just use the remote and access the apps that way instead of casting all the time.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled but still not working.  Anyone any idea how to fix this issue?  I tried to Google stuff but says something about my location but I'm based in the UK so don't really understand!

Thanks in advance!

Anyone help? It's still happening.. So annoying! 😞

Hi 89andrewrobinso,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Nest Community team! I'm sorry to hear about the inconvenience you're facing while trying to use the BBC iPlayer on your Chromecast device. I will do my best to help you find a solution.

As this seems to be a location-related issue, we recommend checking your location settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location > Location Status. Here, you can choose between Use Wi-Fi to estimate location or turning this setting off.
  • If checking the location settings doesn't allow you to watch something on the iPlayer app, we recommend trying to clear the cache.
  • If clearing the cache doesn't resolve the issue, you can try performing a Factory Reset on your Chromecast device. Important: Make sure you are not connected to a VPN while performing the reset.

Please feel free to let me know once you're done.

Best Regards,

Jonathan
