LG C2 OLED TV and Google Home - A bit of a mess

Lardo

Hey there,

I have an LG C2 tv, it's great, would highly recommend these TVs.

I do have an issue though, mostly with Google Chromecast 4k and the way Google Home seems to interact with the telly.

When I first got it, I could say "Hey Google, turn on the tv" and it'd turn on immediately.

Then I got a Google Chromecast 4k and it appears to get very confused. I can ask my speakers to turn the TV on, but it sometimes announces "That device is not turned on, or is currently unavailable"

To add insult to injury, I have an item in my Google Home App which is basically a zombiefied TV item. It's called Google Assistant on LG TV, but it is never connected and just remains grey. If I try to remove it, it unlinks the services, but the zombie item still stays there... and I cannot remove it, I have tried many many ways!

Another weird one is, sometimes I can ask my Google TV to turn on, then forget I asked it to, and then 5 or more minutes later, the TV will turn on. It's driving me crazy as most of my Google Home services are playing up at the moment, despite constant resets of the speakers and TV, nothing seems to be working properly anymore.

Any help would be absolutely incredible!

TLDR:

- Problem with LG TV turning on with voice command to speakers. Device not available.

- TV taking a long time to turn on with voice command to Google Chromecast 4k (5 or more minutes, sometimes 10 minutes)

- Zombie device in my Google Home device list that I cannot remove. Called "Google Assistant on LG TV".

Hi Lardo,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear about the inconveniences you're having with your Chromecast and LG TV. Help's here!

To better understand the situation, please provide the following information:

  • Is the Chromecast built into your TV or is it a separate device?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast?
  • Have you recently made any changes to your Wi-Fi network?
  • Has the Chromecast been set up successfully before?
  • What device are you using to set up your Google Home?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

  1. Check for Updates:
    • Ensure your LG TV's software is up-to-date.
    • Update the Google Home app to the latest version.
    • Check for a firmware update for your Chromecast 4K.
  2. Check Network Connectivity:
    • Make sure all devices are connected to a stable and strong Wi-Fi network.
  3. Check HDMI Connections (if applicable):
    • Verify that the HDMI cable connecting the Chromecast to the TV is securely plugged in.
    • Try using a different HDMI port on the TV.
  4. Restarting Devices:
    • Unplug all devices (TV, Chromecast, speakers) for a few minutes, then reconnect.
  5. Troubleshoot Google Home App:
    • Try removing the zombie device from the Google Home app on a different mobile device.
    • Clear the app cache and data.

If these steps don't work, please let me know. I'm here to continue assisting you.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
