My Philips SMART 4K has Google TV

Hi there,

I’m having issues with my Google TV:

1. I have already set the time limit to be 2 hours in the Google TV under my kids profile yet the TV asks for my PIN code every time when the kids switch on the TV

2. I am not able to adjust the time limit for my kids under the Google Family Link App.

Please help.

Hello @Fathima123,

Thank you for posting on the community. I understand you're running into two issues with the time limits on your kids' profile on your Philips 4K Google TV and the TV is incorrectly asking for your PIN code every time they switch it on, and you are unable to adjust the time limits using the Family Link app. Let me help you with this.

Let's focus on resolving the PIN issue first, as that behavior is usually caused by a simple setting mismatch, and then we'll address the Family Link app connection.

  1. The PIN prompt should only appear when the daily limit has been reached, not every time the TV is turned on. It sounds like your TV may be set to require a PIN just to enter the profile itself.
    1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings and then Accounts & Sign In and then Choose account.
    2. Select the account you want to set the profile lock.
    3. Turn off Profile lock.
    4. Ensure that this lock setting is disabled. The only time the PIN should be required is when the daily time limit you set (2 hours) is completely used up.
  2. Troubleshooting the Family Link Time Limit Issue
    1. Since you can't adjust the limit in Family Link, we need to verify that the app is properly communicating with the TV.
    2. Try adjusting the limit for your child from a different location: the web.
    3. On a computer or mobile device, go to families.google.com.
    4. Sign in with your Google Account.
    5. Select your child's profile and go to the Limits section.
    6. See if you can successfully adjust the screen time limit here. If you can, make a small change (e.g., change from 2 hours to 2 hours and 1 minute), save it, and then check Google TV again to see if the profile updates.

I look forward to your response so we can get your kids' profile working correctly!

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Actually it’s not PIN code for the lock, sorry I should have clarified this better in my question earlier that the PIN code is actually asking for ‘bonus’ time as the time limit has exceeded for the day. I have checked through what you have mentioned and it seems like my child’s account is not locked some days it could be opened with no messages saying that the time limit is up. But some days it just seems to be saying that the daily time limit is exceeded even when the tv has not been switched on to view by any other members in our house.  Pretty strange, could it be an internet issue but we have wifi directly connected to the TV itself so I just don’t understand the issue.

And as for the second issue, I have tried to open the family link from my laptop and it seems the daily limit feature still shows up as not available. We are currently located in Singapore, does Google TV support Singapore?

Hi Dear Fatima,
It sounds like your Google TV parental controls and Family Link settings are slightly out of sync, which can cause those recurring PIN prompts and time limit issues. Even though you’ve set a 2-hour limit on the kids’ profile, Google TV often asks for a PIN when switching profiles or restarting the device as an added parental verification step. To reduce this, make sure your Google TV and Family Link app are both updated to the latest version, then open Family Link > Manage Settings > Controls on Google TV and confirm that your child’s account is properly linked. If time limits still can’t be adjusted through Family Link, try resetting sync by removing and re-adding the child’s profile on the TV under Settings > Accounts & Sign-In > Kids. Also, double-check that the child’s account is not restricted by any system-wide limits that override app settings.
