That's a bummer! The Chromecast 4K with Google TV is a great device, but it's not surprising that it might not support the 5.0 GHz frequency band, especially if it's an older device.
The Chromecast 4K with Google TV supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which is a standard that operates on the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz frequency bands. However, the device's Wi-Fi adapter only supports the 2.4 GHz band, which means it can only connect to Wi-Fi networks that operate on that frequency.
There are a few possible reasons why your Chromecast 4K with Google TV might not be connecting to your 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi network:
1. **Frequency band limitation**: As mentioned earlier, the Chromecast 4K with Google TV only supports the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which means it can't connect to your 5.0 GHz network.
2. **Network settings**: Check your router's settings to ensure that the 5.0 GHz network is enabled and broadcasting its SSID (network name). Also, make sure that the Chromecast 4K with Google TV is set to connect to the correct network (2.4 GHz) instead of the 5.0 GHz network.
3. **Interference**: If there are other devices in your environment that operate on the same frequency band as your 5.0 GHz network, it might be causing interference and preventing your Chromecast 4K with Google TV from connecting.
4. **Firmware issues**: Although unlikely, it's possible that there's a firmware issue with your Chromecast 4K with Google TV that's preventing it from connecting to your 5.0 GHz network.
To resolve this issue, you can try the following:
1. **Switch to the 2.4 GHz network**: If you're using a dual-band router, try switching to the 2.4 GHz network and see if your Chromecast 4K with Google TV can connect.
2. **Check your router's settings**: Ensure that your router's settings are configured correctly, and the 5.0 GHz network is enabled and broadcasting its SSID.
3. **Reset your Chromecast**: Try resetting your Chromecast 4K with Google TV by pressing and holding the button on the back of the device for about 25 seconds until it restarts.
4. **Update your router's firmware**: If you're using an older router, check if there are any firmware updates available that might improve compatibility with your Chromecast 4K with Google TV.
If none of these solutions work, you may want to consider reaching out to Google support for further assistance or exploring alternative streaming options that support the 5.0 GHz frequency band.
