Hi we set up the chromecast on some new devices using iPhone with wireless Internet device. It asked for provider/password this was fine it also asked for security eg wpa etc not understanding this we selected none. By selecting this will it leave our selected Wi-Fi net unsecured. Thanks

No, that will not leave your network unsecured.  If you said "none" and you were able to finish the setup then the Chromecast device figured out what kind of security your network really had and adapted itself to the right settings.

You are fine and your network is still as secure as it was before.
