I just upgraded to Google TV Streamer from Chromecast with Google TV (CwGTV). My previous setup with CwGTV worked fine with surround sound. I had it running running through a Yamaha receiver that provides many options including Dolby, DTS, etc... I have typically just had it set to Dolby. I hooked up the new Google TV Streamer and cannot get any of the options on my receiver to work now. I get no Surround sound on YouTube TV, but do get surround sound on Disney and Netflix (but I cannot select Dolby or DTS, it's just locked in to a generic 5.1. The settings for sound and picture are slightly different for Google TV Streamer than CwGTV, but I cannot figure out what settings I have wrong (and I feel like I've done all the combinations).
I did check that the surround sound is checked for YouTube TV, but even if it wasn't it would't explain why I have no choice of surround sound style (Dolby, DTS, etc...) for Disney or Netflix.
I replugged in my old CwGTV and all worked as expected, so I didn't accidentally change any other settings on my receiver or TV. I just cannot figure out how to get the same options for sound on Google TV Streamer as I did with CwGTV. Thoughts?

I just don't get it: We've paid for the "newer and better device" and accepted the way higher price - only to now discuss stupid workarounds for an even more stupid malfunction. Google took our money and seems to not take it any seriously, that their product is buggy.
Hey Google: Anyone working the problem?

Because Google knows we'll just punish them with our keyboards rather than our wallets. I switched my whole life over to Google products a while ago because I thought that it would be less buggy using one platform. The reality is that Apple makes a phone that just works (but not quite as customizable) and Amazon makes better smart home products (don't get me started with speaker groups!). I see a lot of friends and family utilizing both of those ecosystems with no bugs. And here I am waiting for Google to catch up but they kept focusing on AI features that I don't really care about while I'm stuck wondering why I can't send audio to my nest speakers that syncs with the music video I'm watching on YouTube!

I have the same problem
I use a Teufel 5.1 system with Chromecast or Amazon Fire no problem. But the new Google Streamer has a 5.1 problem.
I hope that this can be solved quickly with an update.

Any updates on this? It still doesn't work properly.

It sounds different for everyone depending on the receiver. I can choose Surround Sound and that works for me on all streaming services. But if I want Dolby, then I have to manually adjust it since the "automatic" option doesn't work. You can report this thread to websites like 9to5 Google or Android Authority and hope they pick up on it and start reporting it. Clearly Google isn't listening to us, we've only received bot replies in this thread.

Is anyone else still having this issue after the January update?

No changes at all here...

Yep, it changed nothing for me. It took away some options for others as well.

Glad I found this topic. Was trying for weeks now, this topic makes it clear I need to return the Streamer unfortunately.

Same problem for me. Streamer with Sonos I can't play Dolby Atmos, it only lets me play Dolby Digital plus 5.1. With the previous Google TV it did it without problems. I can't believe it!!

Also another additional problem, I can't play Hdr10+ with streamer, in Samsung's own operating system I do it without problems. Streamer was the worst purchase I made in my life.
