I keep getting no sound on my Chromecast with Google TV. I have to keep restarting it to get sound back working. Sound works on tv as I use it daily but as soon as I switch to Chromecast then the sound goes and I have to reboot Chromecast again. Is there a fix for this? It was working fine for over a year but only recently it's been happening. Tv is the same so no new hardware.

Hey folks,
Good news! Last week, we started rolling out an update for Chromecast with Google TV that should mitigate this behavior. Kindly observe your devices from time to time and give us a shout if you continue to experience it.
We appreciate everyone’s patience.
Best,
Kimy

Every time I want to use my Chromecast tv it has no sound. I need to reboot it, and then the sound is back. A couple of hours later if I want to use it again it won't play any sounds and I need to repeat the process. This started some weeks ago, it must have been an update or something.
It happens with several apps: Netflix, YouTube, twitch, etc.
All my other HDMI devices work perfectly, they have no issues.
The tv also plays sound with no issues.
The Chromecast and all its apps are updated to the latest version.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It's very annoying.

This is an issue with the last update. Send feedback and hope it gets fixed soon.

Same issue for about 3 weeks now. I called Google support and was left with the device being out of warranty and no fix.

Same issue here. After my TV has been standby mode for a couple of hours, I get no sound from my Google TV. Neither from apps nor from navigating around in the menu system.
Hard resetting the Google TV fixes the issue.

For what its worth... The problem seems to appear with the newer hdmi ports. Over here 4x chromecast tv connected. 2 connected to recent tv models, 2 connected to older tv with NOT the latest hdmi Version. The oldies Always have sound. The newer hdmi needs a reboot Every time before sound appears.

Are you going to fix this!!! Obviously you can see this being an issue for many and having this device available for purchase while knowing there is an issue is problematic for many consumer protection agencies. Get this fixed!

Same
Exact
Issue.
Google doesn't pay attention to these things. Whether it's stadia, or Google home/matter, or Google tv... One has to wonder what they're doing behind the scenes... Cuz it's not software updates.

im ready to leave the platform, ive never had any issues with my chromecast but the lack of support or achknowledgement from google themselves is a joke. I was ready to buy the new pixel but if support is going to be like this I will take my money elsewhere they could have easily just gave us the option to revert back to the old firmware that didnt have the bug but nope we are stuck with this

If you change your display setting from 4K 60hz to anything under 4K 30hz it fixes the issue. I've set mine to 4K 24hz as that's what most things are filmed in. Working fine now, no sound issues and nothing noticeable to the picture quality, give it a try.
05-19-2023 10:39 AM
Tried that, no fix here
05-19-2023 10:50 AM
Try changing from Dolby to HDR (yes, for picture not sound but that would fix it.), someone below mentioned it works for now.
05-19-2023 02:58 PM
It only works for that viewing session. You need to change it again the next day because the sound still is not working.
05-15-2023 03:31 PM
giving it a shot....i'll report back.
05-15-2023 03:41 PM
well i can see a big difference in quality. thats a no.
05-15-2023 04:13 PM
Really? That's strange mine looks fine on 24hz. If I change to HDR it looks bad but others say that works for them. The only other thing I changed was the match content frame rate setting to non-seamless but don't think that would have made any difference.

Seriously? My Chromecast was working fine until the latest firmware update. Either patch this one or revert to the last version. All of the posts in this thread indicate that it is a firmware issue.
05-15-2023 07:17 PM
Same problem here. Very annoying.
05-16-2023 11:52 AM
This is ridiculous, what are you doing at google? Why cant you simply revert whatever change you did?
05-17-2023 06:01 AM
I am having the same issue, each night I need to restart my chromecast with google tv to get the sound to work. This is becoming very annoying.
05-19-2023 09:23 PM
Clearly google doesn't understand the concept of roll back when a software deployment fails. I just feel they should stick to page ranking algorithms.
05-17-2023 08:56 AM
Can we get a response from Google with some update on the matter? ETA?
05-17-2023 08:58 AM
i asked for that 2 weeks ago.
noone from google here....
05-17-2023 01:15 PM
what I find weird about it all is google make android and the device (that they still sell) and they cant even fix their own problem they made. Id understand this if it was a cheapo streaming device thats non branded. I seriously regret not buying another Nvidia shield
05-17-2023 05:49 PM
Are there any updates to this? I am still having this problem.
05-17-2023 05:58 PM
i believe we all are still having this problem....
05-18-2023 04:57 AM
Maybe everyone should leave feedback about this problem as no one seems to be listening on here, I did it via the home app, hopefully they look at the feedback from there!

Hi,
From a couple of days ago, sometime the sound won't work on the unit at all. Not in any app.
Ive checked:
-That the volume is up
-Its not in mute
-Tried different apps
What makes it work again is to go to settings, system and reboot the unit. That makes the audio come alive again.
It has worked for a couple of years without any hiccups so far. This problem came out of the blue (it seems).
Using an LG C9 tv. The Google tv unit is powered with the supplied charger.
Any suggestions for trouble shooting are most welcome.
Cheers

I have the exact same issue, extremely frustrating.
04-30-2023 05:30 PM
Same issue. I've opened a thread but didn't receive any proper solution
05-01-2023 03:46 AM
I got mine fixed. It ended up being a setting on the TV. The audio was set to Auto and wouldn't always recognize the Chromecast audio. I changed it to the audio mode i was using and haven't had any issue sense.
Good luck on yours!

What is your brand/model of TV? What setting? Change that setting to what value?

Thank you for helping out on this thread, ChadLarson!
Hey there everyone,
I'm just checking up on this thread, does anyone have any more questions or need any additional help?
Best regards,

Hej good people,
At the moment I don't have my TV available. And the one I have here at my current place works just fine.
So I consider this issue solved. If problem would arise down the road I'll get back here 🙂
Thanks everyone!
Cheers
