Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

It happened to me last night, and i searched there was no mention on the trouble shoot, so i reset my device and now its not authorizing. I opened a chat and waited like 6 hours and then slept while waiting. Now i see the instructions but already factory reset the device before this was posted

Since Yesterday device is not working.
Already tried to reset it to fabric setting as anytime that in the past years there's been the need.

Now i find stuff like this:

I want you to know that device had no issue at all.
Find a fix for those that did the reset and those that didn't both.

Hola, alguien sabe que puede pasar con el Chrome cast de 2 generación?   Hace de ayer que intento hacerlo funcionar y no hay forma. Me dice que no se puede autenticar.     Lo reinicie de fabrica, lo desconecte,  desinstale y reinstale la app Google Home y nada.  NO PUEDO COMPRAR UNO NUEVO, MAS AVANZADO.   Ayudaaaaa

Same Issue since yesterday. It looks like a planned obsolescence problem.
They need to sell a new product.

hi ,whats wrong with chromecast suddenly , ""cant verify "' no matter what i do ,hard reset of all equip ,nothing seems to work ... annoying if yr depending on chromecast for your streaming .

Or is the support already stopped for 2e gen chromecats and we need to aquire the new product already ?

No caso de quem resetou de fabrica o chromecast, fiz o seguinte procedimento para conectar novamente o chromecast ao wifi, no seu celular onde executa o aplicativo home, volte a data do seu celular para o dia 08 de março de 2025, depois disso volte a tentar configurar o wifi do chromecast, após a configuração do wifi não esqueça de voltar a data do seu celular. No meu caso consegui novamente fazer com que o chromecast conectasse novamente ao wifi, agora estou no aguardo da correção do google para que volte a funcionar normalmente o uso de netflix, youtube etc,

I have a issue with Chromecast,approx 6 years old. My Netflix showed the error notification unable to connect to the device. I rebooted the Chromecast device and since then I just cannot restore it via Google home app. Rebooted the router too. When I ho through home app it finds the Chromecast but after I click on connecting,it just shows it can't be done. Any experience with this one please?

Same issue here with CCA. Shocking that Google support has not provided an ETA. It has been almost two days since I was able to connect. Many other streaming devices available for this level of support to be acceptable.

I am one of those who "restored the factory settings" losing the Wi-fi connection on the Chromecast: I'd like to express my gratitude to those who provided the "date back" workaround. Now at least my chromecast connects again to Wifi to receive the next update!

Can not connect anymore, since the Last 48 Hours. 

I did everything that google reccomends.

Still nothing. 

Is connected in the same tv since ever. Tried every change possibile. Even tried with s different phone.
