Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

What the hell is going on with authentication thry kno exactly whats going on it is very widespread when are yall going to fix this we not stupid its something  yall habe done evil ass people

Hoje eu e diversos usuários do Chromecast nos deparamos com a não conexão via Chromecast!!! Já tentamos todo tipo de ajustes, mas não é passível concluir a conexão com o aparelho Chromecast aparecendo uma mensagem de que o aplicativo não é confiável! Por favor arrumem isso!!!!

Ao resetar o chromecast por que estava dando erro de conexão,  após o programa confirmar e perguntar se vc quer configurar o chromecast2296, logo após a confirmação de configuração recebo a mensagem "NAO FOI POSSIVEL AUTENTICAR CHROMECAST ". isso está acontecendo nos meus 2 chromecast. Como deve fazer pra resolver esse problema.  Obrigado 

Parece que todos os dispositivos Chromecast de segunda geração pararam de funcionar hoje devido a um prazo de autenticação que eles tinham como limite. Não sei se o Google fará algo a respeito, mas há muitos usuários ao redor do mundo reclamando da mesma coisa, inclusive eu.

I got the same issue with both my iPad and my android phone, and I followed all the steps to solve it but nothing 

I currently use 4 Chromecast Audio in various rooms. It worked until it recently broke. It seems clear that it will break forever one day. What can I use as replacement? Will Google send me (free? lol) replacement Google TV thingies and will they work nicely without screen attached? Is there some other vendor I should take a look at?

If Google dropped doing audio-streaming, I loose the main reason to use Google Home at all. If switching to Home Assistant or another platform, which is the easiest way to do audio streaming? I use Youtube premium for convenience with Chromecast for now, but I could easily switch to something else if I have to switch devices anyway. Suggestions on streaming provider+hardware provider combinations to look at after dropping Chromecast audio?

O chromecast deixou de funcionar de repente. Estou há muito tempo  a tentar tudo por tudo para voltar a ter o serviço e nada. Já testei N coisas, desliguei e liguei 700 vezes, já fiz tudo o que aparecia de sugestão na internet para fazer e simplesmente não dá. O suporte técnico ao domingo está encerrado e no entretanto estou há imenso tempo  sem televisão.

I thought that I had done something to cause this issue! Relieved to know it wasn't that. Unfortunately, I found this article AFTER I had already performed a factory reset. Looking forward to resolution. I'll also let Spotify support know it is not an issue with their app!

The fact this hasn't been dealt with yet really does show the lack of loyalty Google has for it's long standing customers. Just because we have adopted the products early and you kept making newer versions doesn't mean we should suddenly be robbed of all access and use of something we paid for regardless of length of time. You are going to lose a lot of loyal customers due to this and the lack of attention that's been shown in assuring customers you are aware and and "trying" to resolve it. I've had to hunt for this information myself and found it in forums. Not Googles official X account or Facebook. Not even their own website. It's not fair at all and truly i feel robbed. I have invested so much money making my home smart woth Google products and i finally think my time may have come to jump ship because this isn't on at all.

Lost chromecast connection a few days ago. Tried "everything" according to troubleshooting guidelines.

Get message "Something went wrong" between iPad and Chromecast.

Please send message with fix, or publish online via a National NEWS site (Sydney/Australia) !

I have already disconnected from power and tried a reinstall, because that’s what your help guides said to do.  Please fix this and tell us how to set up our Chromecast devices again!

Yes I'll need instructions for what to do after a factory reset. My Google Home App is now saying it can't authenticate my Chromecast device. Even before factory reset, I unplugged the  Chromecast device, the router for over a minute, and nothing changed. 

Turn back date on your phone to 8th of march and you can add chromecast back to your home. Still cannot cast or anything but then you can sit tight and wait for fix

Of course we're gonna do a factory reset, it's one of the options when you click on Get Help 🤦🏽‍♀️ Hope you release the fix ASAP. 😓

It is almost the standard procedure to reset the device especially the Google help for problem solving also suggest trying to reset your device.
