Same in California.

Still no fix?   They can't just brick out our device like this

Hola yo tampoco puedo... Cuando se va a poder arreglar ésto??? Gracias

Chromecast is rubbish. Mine doesn't work more often than not. Waste of money.

It's a shame Google aren't as interested in resolving issues as they are in handing out BS badges.

The same **bleep** happen to me…in Italy, it doesn’t work. Nothing…customer care inexistent…

Hi

facing same issue with chromecast gen 2.😞

Same here.
I have 2 2nd gen Chromecast that stopped connecting the wifi.
My google Nest works perfectly, but the 2 old ones keeps showing as offline.
I tried the factory reset, but it doesn't connect to properly working wifi.
Any chance to have an answer?

Found a Work Around for me

My Amazon Fire Stick works fine

Google should have resolved this issue by now which makes me think it's INTENTIONAL

Chromecast authentication issue, here’s the latest update as of March 12, 2025:

  • Current Status: The authentication error affecting second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices is still ongoing. This issue, caused by an expired authentication certificate, prevents these devices from connecting to Wi-Fi or completing setup, especially after a factory reset. Google has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix, but no official solution has been released yet.
  • Temporary Workaround: Some users have had success with this temporary trick to bypass the certificate issue:
  • On your phone, go to Settings > Date & Time and turn off automatic date/time.
  • Manually set the date to March 8, 2025 (before the certificate expired).
  • Open the Google Home app and try setting up your Chromecast again.
  • If it connects, switch your phone’s date back to automatic.
  • Note: This workaround isn’t guaranteed to work for everyone, and even if it does, some apps might still have trouble casting. It’s worth a try, but you might need to attempt it a few times.
  • Avoid Further Factory Resets: Google has advised against performing factory resets on affected devices, as it can make recovery harder. If you’ve already reset your device, avoid doing it again.
  • Monitor for Updates: Check Google's support page and forums like r/Chromecast for the latest news on a fix. Since this is a widespread issue, a solution should be on the way soon.
  • Need More Help?: If you’re stuck and need assistance right away, reaching out to Google support might offer more tailored advice for your specific case.
  • If you or anyone else needs further help, feel free to reach out—I’ll be here to provide more info or support as needed!

It's been 9 hrs since you've posted this and mine has just decided to have this problem 30 mins ago in Australia. So how long is this going to take?

I am having the same issue, 3 chromecast audios showing offline, I removed them from my home app, did a factory reset on them, robooted my router, connected from the same 2.4ghz network, cleared app cache and storage, tried to readd them, but get a "we couldn't authenticate" message. Can't check firmware version because the home app shows it as offline despite one still being connected to my router's wifi

Similar work flow. But with Chromecast instead of Chromecast audio

My chromecast stopped working. Is google punishing me for watching porn last night? 😄

They know from the type of porn that you'd enjoy being punished. So no... They're far more sadistic than even the porn you were watching last night.

Malmö, Sweden. It's the same crap going on here. And the only, useless, so called "help" that is available in the help pages of chromecast.com doesn't address the problem.

I have  the same problem in  Jönköping, Sweden. Gen2.

Chromecast suddenly lost connection with our phones. We started troubleshooting and ended up resetting it back to factory settings. Now we are unable to setup as Chromecast disconnects from Wifi during setup because "The google home app will use a temporary Wi-Fi network to connect to your device"
At that point the  setup stops because  we "lose connection with our phone".

Same for me

I have two Chromecasts 2nd gen that have worked perfectly well for years. Today (March 9th, 2025), they stopped connecting showing a message related to firmware not reliable.

I've already:

My other Chromecast, which was not reset, shows this message when I try to cast: Device not reliable:  the device firmware might be outdated. Both worked perfectly well this morning.

I also have a FireStick, and it is working perfectly well, which seems to rule out connectivity issues.

Please, help! I thank you in advance.

Bruno

Yeah mine also.

Use el Chromecast sin problema hasta ayer. Hoy dejó de funcionar. Me dice que no se puede autenticar. Ya probé de hacer todo lo que indican, reiniciar el wifi, el celular, el Chromecast. Nada funciona
