I'm not a computer genius getting paid to sit on my arse, but thanks to downloading a activity manager I've bypassed your stuff up.Big thanks to  bas 3  post on how to do it in this thread....

I don't get it. The latest admin post says they have identified the cause for the issue and are working on a fix, but it's marked as the answer to the original issue. Is the issue fixed now?

I honestly don't get how Google had a break down when they pretty much run the Internet lol so it's like they have caused the issue themselves and aren't even going to fix it,I brought a fire stick today, don't trust Google anymore

I said the same thing to my son earlier. Question is the fire stick the same not very IT clever I thought I broke the chromecast

I've done a reset factory settings already and can not get it to connect again. When will it be fixed. It started saying untrusted device and to update firmware. Please help.

Ok , please solve this issue as fast as possible....

The suggestion to not reset the device is quite futile. That is one of the first things one would do when troubleshooting, and surely before searching for help. Especially because the first answer is usually "have you tried to factory reset"?

I seriously hope this gets solved soon. And I seriously hope there wil be soon a locally hosted standard for videoaudio streamong so we can be free of corporate platforms......

These comments are ridiculous. It has been two days. You can live without your Chromecast for a few days. I noticed mine was not working and I read there was an issue, so I read a book 🤣 Or, you could easily watch whatever on your laptop/phone.

It's scary how obsessed some of you are with technology/TV.

I have buildt my stereo around the use of chromecast audio. It is sort of annoying when I am not able to listen to music in my house due to the chromecast audio cash.

dont be a judgey bloke, some people work from home with music all day and im one of them, i dont want to have a tv on sucking all my power just to listen to music while i work...

WHEN IS THE FIX COMING ?!

Could you give us an update on the status of our Chromecast devices and Google Home? Seems like you only give info when enough users are having an issue. Please inform us of what to do if we've already done factory reset and Chromecast is still not showing up in Google Home App and unable to be found.

Hopefully we'll get an upgrade with the recert!🤞🏼

What if factory reset has already been performed?

Please fix it team asap.thanks in advance

Google Nest,

How long will it take tech Giant to fix the ussue? It is many days.

In case no one has said thank you, THANK YOU! I appreciate you doing everything you can to fix our issue! I realise you owe us ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and I am grateful for all the years of enjoyment my little chromecast has brought me. Like being able to watch my favourite tv shows on my big screen tv, and being able to cast things from my computer to my big screen tv. I personally am shocked to read how many of these devices some people have going (9? Really??) and amused by how many people are enraged at being disconnected from their technology. Personally, if you aren’t able to fix this problem, I will be giving up my TV. Honestly, I’m just looking for an excuse to do so. You win the award for the best $50 I have ever spent. Thank you again, and a high five to everyone on the team trying to sort this out for people, the majority anyway by the sounds of it, don’t deserve it.

I'm looking into a different product to purchase.  My chromecast is going in the junk drawer!

We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast."!!!... Pls Update on priority

Tell a joke Google

There is no new news in this post.

All you have done is made me more frustrated and determined to not purchase the new Google streamer.

Do you know when the issue will be resolved?

I already did factory reset. What i need to do next?

I have already reset the device to factory settings, what about that?

You're welcome! I'm glad the information was helpful. For anyone else facing the Chromecast authentication issue, here’s the latest update as of March 12, 2025:
  • Current Status: The authentication error affecting second-generation Chromecasts and Chromecast Audio devices is still ongoing. This issue, caused by an expired authentication certificate, prevents these devices from connecting to Wi-Fi or completing setup, especially after a factory reset. Google has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix, but no official solution has been released yet.
  • Temporary Workaround: Some users have had success with this temporary trick to bypass the certificate issue:
    1. On your phone, go to Settings > Date & Time and turn off automatic date/time.
    2. Manually set the date to March 8, 2025 (before the certificate expired).
    3. Open the Google Home app and try setting up your Chromecast again.
    4. If it connects, switch your phone’s date back to automatic.
Note: This workaround isn’t guaranteed to work for everyone, and even if it does, some apps might still have trouble casting. It’s worth a try, but you might need to attempt it a few times.
  • Avoid Further Factory Resets: Google has advised against performing factory resets on affected devices, as it can make recovery harder. If you’ve already reset your device, avoid doing it again.
  • Monitor for Updates: Check Google's support page and forums like r/Chromecast for the latest news on a fix. Since this is a widespread issue, a solution should be on the way soon.
  • Need More Help?: If you’re stuck and need assistance right away, reaching out to Google support might offer more tailored advice for your specific case.
If you or anyone else needs further help, feel free to reach out—I’ll be here to provide more info or support as needed!

Thank you for working this issue but seriously, could you give us something more than DO NOT FACTORY RESET? At least two thirds of the concerned users, apparently, have already done a factory reset, before your info, as per instructions from both customer service and trouble shooting manuals. Also, apparently, there is a way to reinstall the device, backdating the phone/pad to before the 8th. Even if we can't cast to the device it at least appears in our google home apps... so, please give us answers! Will we ever get our Audios och 2nd gens working again or should people start shopping for alternative solutions?

I'm getting quite tired of not being able to stream music here...

Looking forward to your answers.

Thanks

Thanks for the update, but doesn't really help things as I am still left with an essentially bricked device.

Possible grounds for some kind of refund against my Google subscription?

Either way, looking forward to the fix.

La pazienza sta esaurendo

So as this is a loss of service and there is no fix how are you going to reimburse the users ? Or do we go and file a complaint against Google to the respective consumer complaints authority?

Come on guys.. would expect a faster fix from a tech company!

How will you notify us when there is a fix?

Here is the workaround to get your ChromeCast working again while waiting for Google to fix their Mistake :
https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1j7lhrs/comment/mgy1a88/

this works, but imagine what googlevil can do with our data, our family photos, cancel any cloud service

Changing to date to the 8th on march will allow it to be setup if you've already factory reset tho still won't work past setup.

Will your solution fix the issue for both Android and iOS devices connecting to Chromecast?

If you have a computer with a Chrome browser on the web, you can, if you try, connect to the chromecast and use it normally (but only through Chrome) but it takes a little effort so it's just a last resort. How to do this is described on https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1j7lhrs/the_chromecast_2s_device_authentication/?rdt=57...

Where will I be able to exchange my brick for a device that works?

imagine if they do it with your family photos, cancel google drive

Google, I am available to buy a new device as long as YOU ALSO MAKE IT WITH ANALOG OUTPUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
