my iphone won't allow me to change the date, it's greyed out - a lot of phones depending on network providers will not allow this, so that option is of no help at all 😞

Ok. I wasn't aware that some cell phone carriers locked down that setting. Maybe you can borrow someone's (non-locked) smartphone or tablet for a few minutes and use it to re-setup your Chromecast?

To re-setup your Chromecast in case you performed a factory reset, set the date on your smartphone to march 1st. Then user the Google Home app to setup the Chromecast. After that, wait for the firmware update from Google.

This has gone well beyond ridiculous. So much for the DEI hires running the "show" over at Google.

That's hilarious 😂

Mine wasn't working all week but today it has just started working. So I guess this is a late message?

What happens if you did the reset already. Is the device bricked?

Hello Google Chromecast,

Thank you for your email regarding the outage affecting Chromecast (2nd gen.) and Chromecast Audio devices. However, yesterday, before receiving this email, I experienced issues connecting my Chromecast, so I performed a factory reset. Now I’m concerned that this may have further affected my device. Is there any update on what exactly happened and how I can recover my Chromecast now?

Best regards,
Ricardo

I haven't done a factory reset as I didn't realize the problem until I heard about it in the news.

Devices are still shown as offline in the Google Home app.

I hope you publish a solution for those who haven't reset their devices yet.

Cheers.

Hey, my Chromecast stopped working on the weekend. I tried following the troubleshooting steps on this website but now it seems completely bricked and won't connect back to the WiFi. I've bad eyes and can't watch Netflix, Disney or any other streaming services that I'm paying for on a small screen without it causing me pain. Can anyone help?

Thanks

This is happening everywhere for days now but only with the second generation chromecast, see if you can pick up a cheap different generation chromecast

Or ...if you have a laptop that can play what you want log into your Netflix Disney etc then plug an hdmi cable into to your tvs hdmi port that will be a fix till they can fix this issue

Like many others around the world my chromecast stopped working Sunday 9th of march! Today is Thursday and it still doesn’t work! How long will it take before the problem is fixed?

I had already re-started so what must  do I?

Well, I do did factory reset my Chromecast as part of my trouble shooting routine (rarely needed but it happens, usually when travelling). And I let it without power for a while as suggested in some other Google chromecast instructions.

Ah well, putting it on power now and waiting for further info. Happy things will get fixed soon.

On a lighter note, I'm waiting for someone making the joke 'it's due to the thousands of government workers being laid off - somebody fired the guy that needed the certificates to keep up-to-date' 😜🤣

Dear Google team, you say to perform a factory reset when you have problems and I did that too and now you say not to do it, that is contradictory, I hope that there will be a solution for me too and soon please. Greetings Marcel

Ive not been able to connect my phone to the chromecast for days. Been struggling trying everything . Only just received the email that there’s a problem with others too. Already tried the factory reset. When will this finally get sorted? What will I need to do to get it working?

It’s three days now. Is google to compensate it’s clients ? I’m paying for a lot of streaming services I can’t use now.

Hello to whom it may concern,

Due to lack of communication when this all happened I went and did a factory reset. I would like to know how and given the instruction on how to correct this.
thank you

So did I and I honestly think most of us did considering that's what googles go to says to do even with authentication issues so it's on them to find a fix through factory reset I say.

If you reset it like I did, just change your phone's date to March 8th or earlier and start the process of setting up your Chromecast from the Google Home app. Unfortunately, this still doesn't fix the casting issue, but it does leave you on the Chromecast wallpaper screen so it can receive the update.

If you made a factory-reset, the most easy way to connect it to the Internet again (think you need to have your chromecast online to recive the fix):

Tempory override/set the date on your phone to before 09-march-2025, kill the HomeApp en restart it, now you can connect the chromecast to your wifi/internet connection. It online... now your need te wait, just like me and the hole world, for fix from Google...

Biggest tech and search engine, but still can't find a solution 😉

Edit: looks like Google is pushing an fix/update!! They expect it could takes a few days to recive it... (if your device is online!)
