Good news. According to this Reddit post, Google has just started to roll out a firmware update to fix this.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1jafq8x/comment/mhlbb3n/
The next headache for Google will be to convey to millions of users who've done a factory reset how to reconnect their Chromecast to wi-fi, so that they can actually receive the firmware update. It's a fairly straightforward workaround that involves temporarily changing your phone's date/time setting to pre-3/9, which will likely be a challenge for many non-tech-savvy users. If you've ever tried to explain to your mom how to do basically anything on her phone, you know what I mean. Now multiply that times a million.

03-13-2025 12:02 PM

03-13-2025 12:06 PM
My chromecast 2nd gen is connected to the router so I guess it will receive the update automatically. Sometimes I see it shows the whether in my region which proves it is connected. But sometimes it doesn't. Even then, I see images swapping, so I guess it still is connected to the Internet.
The problem started Monday, March 9th
03-13-2025 12:06 PM
I already made a factory restart I did not see the warning. I hope you send how I shall do as soon as possible

03-13-2025 12:08 PM
Minha tv não está conectando o Chromecast
03-13-2025 12:09 PM
At the same time as my Chromecast has stopped working so has my Hub Max 2.
I believe the issues are related

I have 8 chrome-cast audio each one connected to its own amp, boom box or legacy receiver. I use the system every day to put synced music through the house, on each deck, even in the garage. This is a huge pain. Even my wife is complaining

Good news. According to this Reddit post, Google has just started to roll out a firmware update to fix this. Apparently, it's a phased rollout, so it may take some time to hit your Chromecast.

You'll need to wait for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. As I said, supposedly it's going to be a phased rollout. Patience.
03-13-2025 12:40 PM
When will that be? I believe I had already reset. I'm lost
03-13-2025 12:46 PM
To re-setup your Chromecast in case you performed a factory reset, set the date on your smartphone to march 1st. Then user the Google Home app to setup the Chromecast. After that, wait for the firmware update from Google.
03-14-2025 05:37 AM
03-14-2025 04:32 PM
@johnnyzero2 how do I change the date on my phone?
03-14-2025 04:33 PM
Depends on what kind of phone you have. Google it. 🙂
03-13-2025 12:41 PM
my iphone won't allow me to change the date, it's greyed out - a lot of phones depending on network providers will not allow this, so that option is of no help at all 😞
