This is good news,  but having factory reset my device as suggested in the Chromecast help pages last week I can't now connect it.

Presumably this will require a hard connection to the device?

Hi there,

just out of curiosity:

How is it determined which device gets the update next?

I have currently 4 Audio devices running. 2 of them are back to working again, with firmware 1.56.467166. I suppose that's the correct firmware, right?

While you are at it, can you fix so it show ALL the photos from the chosen album instead of repeating same 10 photos? that would be greeeeat

Thank you. We are looking forward to solving the problem and steps to follow for those who have reset the chromecast. I mention that I reset it and somehow managed to reinstall it by setting the time and date back. The installation method worked but I still can't project on the screen, it says it's offline.

What an embarrassment. Fix this **bleep**!

I regrettably performed a factory reset on Chromecast Audio. Setting the time on my phone to before the update (I set it to the 1st of March) allowed me to successfully connect and setup the reset device. Now to just wait for the OTA update. This solution has been reported on other sites so I'm wondering why not here too?

I had already factory reset the device before seeing this message (that had gone into spam). Can you please expedite instructions, as currently, it cannot connect to any networks to receive any updates and cannot be setup.

Ok. Please resolve soon, as I have reset the device and its not working now..

Of course the first thing a tech-aware human being would be a factory reset of the device…

Hi One of my issues is that all my Chromecast Audios are offline. That's how I noticed it. I can't get them back online, so how will I receive the update?

Dont work

How much longer for those that factory reset? Naturally we did this as it wasn’t working prior to your notification

So if my Factory Reset device can't connect to my Wi-Fi how does it display the correct time and temperature on the screen saver photos?

Está conectado y sigo sin poder usarlo

Hi! I already set it to factory settings during troubleshooting. Can you please let me know what to do at #? Thanks so much!

My connection has just come back!

What is the solution for Chromecasts where factory reset was done? I am unable to setup the chromecast through Google home. What is the fix? Its been over 5 days now since the issue initiated.

Try changing the date on your phone, it worked for me, I put March 1, then I changed it again once it was connected and working

I performed factory reset on my chromecast, now it is unable to setup through Google home app. I am unable to use chromecast for so many days now. Please help me Google.

If you have done a factory reset, and the device is now online, you can fix it this way

  1. Connect Chromecast
  2. In your phone settings, turn back date to before March 9th 2025
  3. Open Google Home and search for new devices
  4. Find the Chromecast and set it up as normally, select wifi, location, name etc.
  5. The Chromecast should now be online on your WiFi, and show the screensaver photo
  6. Even though it now appears in your video apps, please note that you can still not cast anything to it before the certificate fix has been rolled out
  7. Remember to turn automatic date/time back on, in your phone settings
  8. Wait for a software update

Please resolve asap. I feel this should warrant some kind of compensation as this has resulted in me being unable to watch services I am paying for, for nearly a week.

This weekend is the F1 in Australia. This must be streamed to a huge screen for a lot of people. What is actual the work-around for the 2nd gen chromecast (not buying a new streaming device)?

Chromecast is not working atall.. initially it was showing some firmware issues and after resetting it..now it is showing some device authentication issues...is there any customer care calling number on which i could speak for assistance

Ok then, waiting. We have four of that devices 😅

Well, I already did a factory reset before I saw this information. It has been a week and still nothing. When will it be sorted? I am looking at other casting devices!

I keep getting an error message that says

Failed to establish a session with the selected device.

With an error code starting with SSCR

This has been going on for a week on both my chromecast devices.

Can anyone help????

"Your device must be connected to receive the update"??

But this is the issue. Chromecast devices are offline due to earlier sw (flaw) update, and now can't get back online to receive the new sw rollout.

What to do?

Thank you I've 3 Chromecast audios in my home it was a joy this morning one works the other one that was connected the same as the one that works doesn't.

Sadly I removed the third one off the Google home app and now it won't come back although it's connecting to my internet. Shame this headache still goes on.

Still I'll count my blessings out of three one works Yeee Haaa!
