Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Infelizmente eu resetei o meu para a configuração de fábrica. E agora???

Olá Sônia, se você ainda não conseguiu acessar, faço o seguinte: altere a data do seu celular para o dia 07/03/2025 (se tiver com hora e data automática, desmarque esta opção de coloque a data manualmente) abra o app Google Home, e faça a adição do novo dispositivo dentro do app, depois disso é recolocar a hora e data no automático que o seu Chromecast já estará funcionando normalmente.

I did factory reset mine. So I am stuck. I cannot wait for the fix so I have to purchased a Xiaomi TV Stick. Google sucks...

Oh well, this is an embarassing comment and it's useless as well on a COMMUNITY FORUM.   You could've waited for the chromecast to be fixed  ... as we speak now, a fix is being rolled out everywhere.

Dear google, I’ve performed a factory reset both on my Chromecast 2nd gen and chromecaste Audio. And still the issue hasn’t resolved. What would be the solution for this issue?

You can change your phone date manually to March 7 to resetup your devices, however you will still need the fix to be able to use them again

My new Google Chromecast G454V with remote control does not work, just looping "GOOGLE TV" on tv screen, no connection to remote control. So it's not only ver. 2 affected to this problem!!??

Vraiment pas sérieux, google in apable de réparer un bug, comment leur faire confiance, 5 jours déjà, inadmissible .

 

Lis le pinned post ... ils sont en train de deployer une solution pour regler le tout, ca prendra quelques jours.  Si tu sais pas comment ca marche, please abstient toi de commenter .  Ca sonne seulement imbecile comme commentaire.

This problem has been going on for a few days now, do you have anything else to say except "We are trying..!"? If you can't fix this problem soon, please tell everyone! This is much better than keeping people waiting. Please tell me, will this problem be fixed or not? If your answer is yes, please tell me when will this problem be fixed?

Read the pinned answer, it says they are deploying a fix and it will take a few days to hit your chromecast if it's not been factory reseted ... etc .. please learn to read before commenting.

Well... This is a big issue especially if you are with your kids and you prefer chromecast instead of smartphone. Struggling to set it up... Waiting for a fix being rolled out impatiently.

From one week  my Chromecast not connecting

I removed my Chromecast Audio from my Home at the start of the week (before I knew this wasn't just a problem with my Chromecast), hoping removing & re-adding might fix the issue.  Of course, I can't re-add it to my Home as it just isn't found by the app when I try to add it.

The discussion seems to be around connecting to the Chromecast in your Home app - will the fix make it visible again to the app to add it back in?

 

(Edit - I did NOT factory reset my Chromecast Audio & I've tried the phone date change method but Home still can't find the device to add it back in) 

Yes. The firmware update will fix this. Google started rolling it out yesterday.

Hello,
For Chromecast Audio owners. There are alternatives that will be reliable over time. The Octavio Stream G2 meets my expectations. While browsing the web, I came across this article: https://octavio.fr/en/blogs/blog/octavio-stream-g2-la-meilleure-alternative-au-chromecast-audio

La respuesta a todo inconveniente tecnológico siempre fue "reinicia el dispositivo". Ok, reinicio chromecast, reinicio rooter, reinicio incluso el celular. No anda. "Proba restaurando de fábrica y configurando nuevamente". Y ahora nos dicen días después que no hay que reestablecer de fábrica? Es una vergüenza que una compañía de semejante envergadura tenga este problema. De hecho, más vergonzoso que lo que sucedió hace unos años con la gente de Samsung y sus home theaters (tuve que llevarlo a un service oficial porque no había manera de hacerlo funcionar). Esperamos urgente solución o, caso contrario, que nos cambien el dispositivo por uno en funcionamiento
