Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Ya llevamos muchos días con esto y salen noticias de que se ha enviado una actualización a los que no han restablecido el dispositivo de fábrica, lo cual es mi caso y no me ha llegado ninguna actualización. No puedo ver la TV ya que no es HD y la veía a través de Chromecast lanzandolo desde el móvil. Decid si lo vais a arreglar o si nos hemos de comprar otro.

Hola! Alguna solución fiable disponible para el issue con Chromecast 2 ?

Desde el sábado 08/mar/2025 que persiste el problema. Intenté un reseteo y sigue sin funcionar. Probé con un workaround (tutorial de youtube), retrasando la fecha de mi teléfono móvil y no funcionó.

Google Home Speaker repeatedly responded "there was a glitch, please try again in a few seconds." It was unplugged numerous times ( to no avail) & then unintentionally factory reset. Now when there is an attempt to set up the app say "unable to connect" with a retry tab that doesn't help. Please advise.

Como es posible que tenga dos chromecas diferentes en los dos televisiones y la del comedor no se vea me dice que no encuentra el chromecast

yo trabajo y estudio con Chromecast 2da Gen... no he podido ver mis videos de estudios y tengo mucho trabajo que ya no puedo realizar, por culpa de la negligencia de Google... por favor solucionen pronto, estoy perdiendo dinero y tiempo ... lo reinicie a valores de fabrica, pero fue muy tarde el anuncio de no hacerlo... han cometido 2 errores, y eso hace notar la falta de profesionalismo ...

WTF? How is possible one week without function? And you wrote short notice in to help website? I try conection both of my device so many times. Changing so many things on my devices. I havent got a words for this fail.

I factory reset several times to reinstall on my TV after a failing connection with some apps that worked with it. Just waiting impatiently for a solution 'cause I cannot cast anything on my TV.

Ik heb hem wel weer kunnen koppelen via het aanpassen van de datum maar ik kan nog steeds niks casten. Verder denk ik gewoon afwachten ik kan niks updaten en zie ook niks of er iets is geupdate
