Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

I tried to put the date on my phone back, march 6th. After that I tried to re-connect with my chromecast in the Google home app, what worked. At last I had to put the date back to today so I could cast. Now I can happily cast again! 😀

Actually I just set up six devices and you can actually try to force an update now if you just unplug it and plug it back in and give it some time.
That just worked for six of my chrome cast audio, I'm also now having to activate my three brand new spares. It's working for those as well.

Finally the issue is resolved and I'm able to cast videos. It did two updates and two restarts after which it started showing the option to cast in phone.
Thanks to Google to finally solve it but I'm sure it's been a eye opener for both the producer and consumer.

Yippie. I managed to fix my crashed Chromecast. I had, of course, factory reset it, which you should definitely not do.
But I managed to reconnect it again by changing the date on the mobile until February 10. Then I could fool it that the error had not occurred yet, so I could set it up with the Home app. Immediately afterwards, the Chromecast downloaded Google's new update that fixes the bug. Then I put the date correct again. Success!

Fiz o reset no meu Chromecast 2 geração, pois não havia recebido nenhuma mensagem sobre esse erro, achei que resolvesse resetando, estou frustrado por haver uma solução nesse momento para o meu caso, espero uma solução o mais breve possível.

Manually reset your casting devices date to the 7th March or before, ie your phone or tablet. Then go through the setup process in home again. I had tried factory reset

He cambiado la fecha a uno de marzo, he borrado la aplicación home y volviendo a instalar me ha permitido configurar chromecast. Al volver a poner la fecha actual parece que sigue funcionando

Because I followed the troubleshoot instructions in the first place and did a factory reset I have to wait longer for the update? Wow, good job Google. Now I am even more sure I am not buying a Google Nest/Home in the future.
