So has this issue been fixed.  Unfortunately I did reset my device.   What do I need to do to start casting again?

kind of frustrating

There is a fix offered by user johnnyzero2
Do this fix
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Regarding-an-issue-with-Chromecast-2nd-gen-and-Chro
Leave your unit power up on your local Wi-fi network. It takes time for the google server to update the device

I just verified that the problem has been resolved for Chromecasts that have not been reset to factory settings, but what do we do for those that have been reset?

Users who have factory reset their Chromecast will have to wait for a message from Google informing them how to re-enable the Chromecast setting.

johnnyzerro2 is right, his fix is what I did Tuesday of this week, the date he specified is dead on and it's a very simple procedure.  Just leave your device powered on connected to your wifi.  If you want tips to see if your unit is updated, I can provide you wit tips.   You can see if your certificate has been updated with web browser or your wireless router.

Fix for Chromecast Issue After Factory Reset:

If you've performed a factory reset on your Chromecast and are still facing issues, here's a quick fix.

  1. Set the date on your mobile device to a date before March 7th.
  2. Set up your Chromecast again — it should update immediately.
  3. After the update is complete, restart your Chromecast.

Once you've followed these steps, your Chromecast should work properly again. It’s unclear why Google hasn’t addressed this issue more promptly, but this workaround should help resolve the problem for now.

Did you perform a factory reset on your device? If so, then you'll need to perform this procedure to allow it to receive the update:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Streaming/Regarding-an-issue-with-Chromecast-2nd-gen-and-Chro

Keeps saying this page is unavailable

For all the factory reset people who are freaking out and asking "what do I do now?", this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started pushing out on 3/13.

1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7 or earlier.

2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast. You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Also, you can change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.

3) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.

Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take as long as several days for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Patience.

**Google really should pin this information to the top of this page.**

What are you talking about? Google started rolling out a firmware update fix yesterday. Read the status updates at the top of this page.

If you haven't received the update yet, then perhaps you performed a factory reset on your device. If so, then you'll need to perform this procedure to allow it to receive the update:

Hello everyone, my Chromecast is now working! I just turned on my TV to check and it just started updating. I'm now watching something. 🙂 Thank you, Google Team!

Note: I also factory reset my Chromecast while trouble shooting and I did @johnnyzero2's instructions to set it up again by changing date and it worked. 🙂 thank you to you as well!

Be patient guys!

If you're waiting for the solution for those users who have performed a factory reset, just do this:
