Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Worked perfectly! Thank you!

Thank you! Chromecast is working again... even though google home is still saying it isn't connected 🙂

Yes, the Home app will still say that it's disconnected until it receives the firmware update fix. Once that's installed, it will restore full functionality. Be patient.

não funcionou .!!

Re-read the instructions and try it again. I promise you, it works. See posts below.

I tried this and it did not work for me

Up and running 🏃‍♀️ thankyou so much 😊😊😊

I tried this several times on both of mine & it still fails. I get closer then b4 but then it fails .

Keep trying. I promise you, it works.

Tried this steps and my chromecast updated. It's finally working.

Yes, it worked. Thanks.

Waiting eagerly for fix to be rolled out now...

Good. Also, some are reporting that you can somewhat "provoke" the update by power-cycling the Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable).

Funcionó! Gracias

Doesn’t work

I promise you, it does. Re-read the instructions and try it again. Good luck.

Funcionou e sim, tá conectando normal, voltou a funcionar normalmente...

@GoogleNestTeam if this is the fix then please pin it to the top of your page and forward it to users since many thousands of them are victims and if we actually tried to solve our problem and did a factory reset (as advised by Google as a normal problem solving step) then we still haven't received a fix or advice what to do. While many apparently have been able to fix the problem apparently with these steps.

Right? Literally every other person on this forum is asking how to recover from a factory reset. I sure wish they would pin this information at the top. I'm getting tired of posting it. 🙂

Vc trabalha para o Google?? BertVV está certo. Enganar o Chromecast pode ser uma ação momentânea. Mas queremos a solução definitiva para o problema. Google é que deveria estar a responder aqui.

Yes, it's a clever trick to temporarily get around the expired security certificate. I'm sure Google will eventually come up with a more elegant solution. But I assume most people here would rather not wait for an "official" fix.

You do nothing, just leave the Chromecast power on and wait, then occasionally open Google home app and check the status

Not true. Anyone who has done a factory reset will first need to do this to get it back online, or else it will never receive the firmware update fix:

Hola! Mi Chromecast se actualizo hace una hora, pero sigo sin poder transmitir nada. Debo seguir esperando algo más?

Hice eso conecto se actualizó pero no puedo transmitir desde mi celular al dispositivo por más que este conectado

I used your advice. And it worked. Thanks for your help

How do you set the date on I phone

Settings, General, Date and Time

Thanks so much, it worked I don’t have to wait for goggle to update me about fixing the issue anymore!

Unfortunately that fix didn't work for me. I am having to hit the 'patience' key and watch my programs on the ipad.

Just wait and don't do anything. Don't press the patience key give it 10mins then turn the date back to today and should work.

Did this myself this morning : chromecast updates right after connecting to wifi and all is working good now !!

It worked for us. Thank you very much!

Solution worked..Thanks.

@johnnyzero2 thanks for your advice and for your efforts to spread the word to many of us. I was also able to reconnect the Google Home app to my Chromecast after temporarily changing the date of my phone to 1 March (Samsung with Android). Still hoping @GoogleNestTeam will communicate this workaround as soon as possible to everyone while they work on an complete fix. It shouldn't have to be the responsibility of a single user to inform more than 12,000 users about the workaround (and every day 1,000 more who have the issue let alone who didn't find this post).

Thank You.  I will try this method and then hoping my Chromecast 2nd generation will work again and receive the update (Samsung Android Phone)

Realmente funciona esta opción.  A mi me ha ido bien.

Worked perfectly thanks

Dónde tengo que entrar para realizarlo?

Are you asking how to change the date on your phone?

bravo, great, I did as it says, I set the date back to March 6 and installed it again and it immediately updated and it's now working and I'm watching football.
