If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

If someone has reset the factory settings, change the phone’s date to March 8, 2025, open the Home app, and set up the Chromecast. Once it connects to the internet, it will receive the update. After it’s finished, restore the date and test it.

Ho eseguito il reset del dispositivo, come la maggior parte, dal momento che la vostra segnalazione non è stata tempestiva. Il mal funzionamento mi impedisce di guardare la TV e le piattaforme in abbonamento, (Netflix,).  Dovreste rimborsare il disagio e il danno. Il tempo di attesa si sta allungando troppo.

I can confirm that my Chromecast Gen2 is now fully operational.  Thanks to the Nest team.  Most people don't realize the challenge of releasing a patch that affects millions of devices without breaking something else.  The fact that it took only 5 days is truly commendable.

For a device which was factory reset, the solution is to change the phone date to before March, 8 and perform the setup.

O meu continua sem conectar ao celular eu tinha resetad9 quando deu o poblema e agora ?

Leave your unit power up on your local Wi-fi network. It takes time for the google server to update the device

How do I update chromecast? The only way I have found to do so is via Google tv, and I don't have it.

Roll back the data in your phone to march 6th

Use Google Home to set up

The new software will download

When finished, do a new factory reset

Restore the phone date

Setup with Google Home again

No puedo instalar chromcast

Has the issue been fixed? If so,none of my devices will connect to Wi-Fi?

I reseted it many times days ago, does it affect badly in reconnection? Btw, still the same, no news.

Good evening, I am not using my device, and I reset it, which is the obvious thing I could do, now I see that it shouldn't have happened, any help with this?
my device is now as Choromecast0285, still waiting for a solution.

 

Most people did factory reset and are not happy it's not working for a week and no resolution timescale.

Simple workaround- get an HDMI to usbc adaptor & plug into laptop/device then use your browser to stream shows. Simple until Google fix this! Good luck!

 

Thanks for the update info, I just found it.  Unfortunately I have rebooted the device but it has come up on my TV as "Get the app"
