If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Still not working. When I noticed that my Chromecast2 wasn't working, I obviously did a factory reset. I am currently able to go through all the process of setting it up with my Google Home App, but it fails to connect to the common wifi.
Any advice on how or when this will work again would be much appreciated!

Hi Google team,
I have the 2nd gen Chromecast device and got it factory reset while facing it initial outage. Now it's been a long week, when can I see it resolved, my kids are after me and making my life very tough & hard. Please do fix this asap. It will be much appreciated.

I had reset the chromecast to factory settings. Google Home could no longer find the chromecast. I set my phone to March 8. Then added the chromecast again with Home. The chromecast automatically updated. After the update everything works properly again : ) Set the phone back to the current date

No wonder.. FYI, I've already troubleshooting with multiple methods.. remove the devices, add on again, unpluggedd replugged.. almost a week now.. how long we still need to wait?

I was able to solve today with this procedure.
- set the date on your phone to 1st March 2025
- Use the App Google Home to connect the Chromecast device (this way works)
- follow the instructions for connection and setup
- after the setup the device will start an update and now works as before

hey, I did fabric reset mine chromecast so he couldn't connect with Wi-Fi, what i did i change date on my telefon for 8.03.2025 ( any date before 9.03.2025 should work) and than he allowed me to provide configuration, connected with internet and automatically downloaded a new actualization..its working now 🙂 i change date on my phone back again and its just working perfectly, greetings Sylwia

Ik had de chromecast gereset naar fabrieksinstellingen. Google Home vond de chromecast niet meer.
Heb mijn telefoon naar 8 maart gezet. Vervolgens met Home de chromecast weer toegevoegd. De chromecast ging daardoor automatisch updaten. Na de update werkt alles weer naar behoren : )
Telefoon weer teruggezet naar de huidige datum.

Autre chose , envoyez des messages au utilisateurs par mail, sur les écran de leurs tv etc pour expliquer la situation , comme ça on arrête de s’acharner à faire des resets tous les jours, à appeler les fournisseurs internet pour vérifier si le problème ne vient pas du rooter etc. C`est le minimum des respect pour vos clients.
