Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Oi meu amor, olha só... tu volta a data do teu celular pro dia 7 de março. Configura ele no Google home, aí então tu volta a data ao normal e aguarda. Em umas hs ele baixa sozinho a atualização. O meu já está funcionando. Calma que dá certo.

Vorrei sapere se state cercando di ripristinare il problema o aspettate che si compri un altra chromecast?

I updated Google Chrome and changed the date on my phone (08/03/2025). Google Chrome has updated and is working fine now!!!

It's nothing to do with the date on your phone. It's the software of the chrinecast

I have 3 Chromecast Audios and 1 Chromecast 2nd Gen (which I did a factory reset on).  I'm happy to report that they are all working again.  For the Chromecast I set the date to March 7th on my android phone to configure it with the Home app.  Thanks for fixing this.

Estamos a sábado y sigue sin funcionar . El mío está configurado y lo reconoce desde móvil y tablet pero no hay manera de que conecten.

I did a factory reset as soon as the problem occurred and today March 15, 2025, the problem is still not solved.

tool late. In the Google Troubleshooting guide there is a step that suggest to factory reset the device. Now i'm offline. How can i solve the issue?

Is this also affecting google Minis? All of my minis & audios keep disconnecting from the WiFi. They disconnect at least once a day. I have 2 minis, 3 audios. It's very frustrating!

**There is a known fix to recover from a factory reset, and it's ridiculous that Google hasn't pinned that information to the top of this page!

Literally 90% of the people now posting here are saying "I've done a factory reset, now what can I do?" or "Any update on a fix for those who have done a factory reset??".

Hola , mi paciencia se agota y no soy el único

Cuánto va a demorar ?   Tengo un dispositivo que no sirve para nada y no es culpa mía

Lo reinicie y resulta que fue peor , porque no lo previeron

Me dijeron recién que cambie la fecha en mi celular de antes de la actualización, puse 1ro de marzo. Ahí me leyó el Chromecast qué no me funcionaba desde el Google home. Luego de que termino de hacer la actualización, volví la fecha a hoy y ya me deja usarlo. Espero que también puedas. Abrazo 

Personalmente non ho fatto cambiamenti al mio cellulare, né do orario, né di giorno, né di nulla.All'improvviso mi è scomparsa l'icona del chromecast dal televisore, dal cellulare non potevo più trasmettere a video....... Il macello ahahahah

Does this affect Google Home Mini Gen1 and Nest Mini Gen2? All my Google Home devices are not accepting any kind of cast...They still respond to commands, but I'm unable to cast Spotify and Youtube.. 😞
