If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Just sharing in case it helps with the solution for those that factory reset - the Chromecast does at least go to the set up and my phone can recognize it. But it still says that it can't communicate with the Chromecast so set up can't be completed.

Solution pour tous ceux qui ont fait tout comme moi un reset de leur chromecast de 2ème génération : il suffit de changer la date de son smartphone avant la date de la panne du 9 mars 2025. Cela a fonctionné pour moi en désactivant le fuseau horaire et date automatique dans les paramètres systèmes Android. Puis j'ai ouvert l'application Home depuis mon smartphone > ajouter un appareil > il m'a proposé de configurer la chromecast détecté sans erreur > j'ai configuré le Wi-Fi de la chromecast et j'ai débranché la chromecast puis rebrancher et maintenant cela fonctionne à nouveau. It’s working again. I did factory reset the device and this did the trick: set you phone to 7 march, setup/connect the chromecast and it will do an update. After the update it did take about 10 minutes for it to really be up and running again correctly but it works! After this put your phone on the correct date again.

Via setting you go to set time. There you turn off the automatic time setting. In the agenda you change the date.

Yes, localize the configuration of Day, month and year and put it on 6-mar-2025. After this, reinstall your chrome cast.

Ho modificato la data al 03/03 sul telefono, così Chromecast ha fatto l'aggiornamento. Finalmente ha ripreso a funzionare.
Ricordati che terminata la configurazione su Home e l'aggiornamento, devi reimpostare la data odierna sul tuo telefono, affinché Chromecast si colleghi al telefono stesso.

Los reinicie a fabrica como siempre y a hora no va ninguno.
Por favor una solucion o que digan que no van a ir mas y que hay que cambiarlos por los nuevos.
Pero no lo corten asi, que al paso que van, seran mejor el de lis chinos.
