Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Hola buenas quiero comentar lo que yo intenté y me funcionó, al menos para mí cromcast. Puse mi dispositivo ( celular ) con fecha del 07/03 ; osea configure mi dispositivo con esa fecha, acto seguido descargué nuevamente la aplicación home y me tomo esa fecha y lo pude actualizar

I'm aware you are trying to fix the Chromecast 2nd, but it better happen. Calling attention bc the roll out that happened definitely has caused an issue in my house. We use Google for most of our series and devices and would hate to turn everything off and become an apple family. So find the solution asap. 

It has already been implemented (the fix), you have to make sure you are connected to the (right) Google account  so they can send the fix

Hello, change the date on your phone to a date before 03/08/2025, so you will be able to set up the Chromecast.

It is working!

I have changed the date in my phone to have march 1, then I open Google Home and it connected to Chromecast. I conffigued it whit my WiFi code sucessfully. 

After that, I set automatic date in my phone and every works OK.

Por favor passem alguma informação de quando vai voltar a funcionar porque e um absurdo,faz uma semana já sem funcionar.Tenho dois aparelhos e está sem funcionar os dois...paguei caro nos aparelhos e não estou podendo utilizar.

Faz um comunicado informando quando isso vai voltar por que dizer que está trabalhando é muito fácil...uma semana já que estão trabalhando e nada.

su alcuni siti che hanno parlato del problema  di Chromecast dicono che i tecnici Google hanno risolto il problema del bug ma io continuo a non riuscire ad reinstallarlo.Comunque il fatto che evidenziato il problema il reset del dongle Chromecast non andava assolutamente effettuato l'ho appreso da Tom's Hardware e non da google che,dice,lo ha comunicato agli utenti con una mail io mai ricevuta dal giorno 9 marzo cioè da quando si è verificato il problema.

Its been 5 days now i cant cast on my Tv.. How many times i already put on and off my chromecast its say couls not authenticate..I even make a new account on gmail and still the same feedback..keep going back to google help.. Etc..pls help..

Last Sunday, I was trying to cast from my phone to the TV but couldn't find the option, so I rebooted the Chromecast. After that, I couldn't connect at all. My phone's a HUAWEI P30, and the Chromecast is pretty old, so I’m not sure what model it is.

Para reinstalar o chomecast após o problema de domingo dia 9, quando restauramos as configurações de fábrica, troque a data do celular para dia 8 ou antes, e resete novamente o chromecast, e as atualizações serão instaladas automaticamente.  Tem que enganar o certificado que teria vencido dia 9.

ya lo restableci de fabrica  pero cuando lo quiero activar con el telefono me dice que no se pudo autenticar tu chromecast y que cisite la web para obtener ayuda

Dining Room TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again.
