Yeah, I had factory reset mine before I knew it was a network-wide issue and not just a device hiccup. Oops 😞

Prezados, boa noite.

Há alguma resposta sobre este ocorrido. Até o presente momento continuo sem poder usar meu dispositivo. Afinal de contas, ficarei no prejuízo ou a Google irão corrigir ao que houve?

There is a fix if you factory reset it. I saw it on techradar.com

You have to reset date to March the 8th on your phone (before certificate expired), add the device again in Google home and it then it will do the update. Change your phone date back to auto date and time (very important) and Chromecast is now working fine. Thanks Stephen B and Marina Cascais on Tech Radar

(possible) NewsFlash:

A few users have reported here that Google has supposedly released a new version of the Home app (currently for iPhone only?) that addresses the "factory reset" catch-22 hellscape that so many are experiencing. I can see that there is a new version on the Apple App Store from today 3/16, but I'm an Android guy so I can't confirm that it actually fixes this issue (and the changelog isn't specific about exactly which bugs/ improvements it addresses). If true, this will be a much simpler solution than the well-known "date" workaround, especially for non-technical users. The solution would be as simple as updating to the latest version of the Home app and then using it to re-setup your Chromecast.

I'd like to hear from other iPhone users here if this is indeed the fix that so many people have been waiting for. Please report results here.

Of course, if all of this is true, I assume they'll also be releasing an Android version soon.

There's a fix in for Android users if factory reset Chromecast.

Thanks. Yes, I'm well aware of that fix.

I've been posting my own version of those instructions everywhere I can for the past several days:

btw, that same fix will also work for  iPhone users, assuming their date/time setting isn't stupidly locked down by their cell phone carrier. Only a few carriers do this.

For all the people who performed a factory reset during their initial troubleshooting, this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started rolling out on 3/13.

1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7, 2025 or earlier. If you don't know how to do that, see below.*

2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast by adding it as a new device (+). You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Most importantly, it'll now be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network so that it can receive the firmware update fix.

3) Change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.

4) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.

Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take a while for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Also, some have reported that power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable) will sort of "provoke" the firmware update to be installed. Patience.

*How to change your phone's date/time settings:

For iPhone/iPad: go to Settings, General, Date & Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

For most Android phones/tablets: Settings, General Management, Date and Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

**Google REALLY should pin this information to the top of this page.**

Fantastic.  Thanks for posting the solution/fix.  I changed my cell phone date to 2/1/25 then went through the steps to add my 2nd gen Chromecast to my Home app.  My Chromecast immediately began downloading updates.  Afterwards change my cell phone back to auto-date.  My Chromecast completed the update and boom, I can cast again.  THANKS SO MUCH.  Google should send this to everyone who has performed a factory reset.

Olá! Eu fiz a redefinição de fábrica, acabei de fazer o que você postou aqui e deu certo, meu Chromecast já está funcionando! 👏🤘😉
