Thanks changing date on my phone to March 7th and then doing setup of chrome cast from Home App fixed it

Thank you. This eventually worked for me with my Google Audio and Android phone...
1. Set phone date to 1 March 2025
3. Remove Chromecast from Google Home
3. Reset phone
4. Reset Chromecast Audio 2 (by power cycle and holding reset button)
5. Run Google Home to re-add the reset device
6. Restore auto date setting to phone.
Finally Chromecast audio connects to network, downloads update and a short while later works again.
Thank you all for your help.

Hola.

Muchas gracias, amigo. Me re sirvió.

Hi How do I solve the issue of Cromecast not working when I already have reset the Cromecast?

wrosales

As many more I need a prompt solution or a compensation, in my case I have three devices and I trust Google for more than 10 years.

Same problem here…

Change your phones date to march 1st and turn off automatic time, and retry the whole setup process after reset, chromecast connects to network and updates itself. After the update and setup you can change back your phones time to current. It worked for me.

Thanks!

Got the chromecast to update. But now google home app doesn’t seem to find it anymore.

Do you got more tricks up your sleeve? 🙂

I did it and it is run again. Thanks.

Thank you very much for the recommendation, is this process useful if you reset the device?

Yes.

I did a factory reset on the Chromecast when the problem started on March 9th and the solution that made it work again was in two steps:
The first step was to remove the Chromecast link from Google Home. Then, I reset the Chromecast again, holding the mini button on the device for about 10 seconds. After that, I changed the date on my smartphone to March 8th, 2025 (one day before the bug). Soon after, I reinstalled Google Home and configured the Chromecast, linking it to the device. After all that, I tried to mirror the phone's screen and confirmed that the Chromecast returned to the same situation right after the bug and before I had reset the device.
The second step, after the configuration was successful, I reset my smartphone to the current date and unplugged the Chromecast from the socket for 10 seconds. I plugged it back in and the Chromecast was automatically updated via the internet and then the mirroring with the smartphone started working again. I hope this helps!

Hi

What do you mean by ,,tried to mirror the phone's screen and confirmed that the Chromecast returned to the same situation right after the bug and before I had reset the device.”?

I have several IPhone and IPad devices. Do I need to repeat the same procedure with all?

@killerfish  Thanks !!!   I live in Argentina, my chromecast is works!!!!

Então voltei a data pro automático e voltou! Estou assistindo com som normalmente. Meu Chromecast é bem velho e eu tinha resetado ele.

I am not able to connect phone to TV screen. It shows due to firware update

Recover Chromecast 2 After Factory Reset and Force Update

Hello everyone,
I managed to force an update on my Chromecast 2 after it was factory reset.

Below are the steps to follow:

  1. Set the date on your phone to March 7.
  2. Clear all data from the Google Home app by deleting its data and cache from the Android apps settings.
  3. Open the Google Home app and sign in with your Google account.
  4. Add a new device.
  5. Connect to the Chromecast and complete the setup process up to the Wi-Fi step.
  6. When connecting to Wi-Fi, it will appear to be stuck on "Connecting" and won’t connect, but in reality, the connection has already been established.
  7. Unplug the Chromecast’s power USB, then try adding the device again and proceed to the Wi-Fi step once more.
  8. In some cases, when attempting to reconnect, the device may restart and begin updating.
  9. If it doesn’t update on the second attempt, repeat the process of adding the device again.
  10. Eventually, it should automatically start the update process.

This method worked for me on two factory-reset Chromecast devices.

Warning:

  • If you turn off the device while the update process is starting, you may permanently damage it.
  • Perform these steps at your own risk.
  • Otherwise, wait for official instructions from Google.
