For those of you who have done a factory reset, a solution that worked for me was changing the phone's date to March 8th to allow to set up the Chromecast again. Once connected to Wi-Fi, it updated correctly, applying the patch that fixes the issue.
I hope this helps!

This solution worked for me. THANK YOU! GOOGLE should distribute this solution to all affected users. Where is GOOGLE AI???? Terrible quality of services and products.,

Comment as tu changé la date?
03-15-2025 04:41 PM
Im Handy Datum geändert auf 9.03.

Thank you Google. We think Chromecast is a brilliant invention and are so pleased you have fixed it. We use it a lot...thanks again. Alan

Hey-o!
I can't find my Chromecast in my apps on my phone. I didn't do a factory reset and can cast from my laptop BUT I unplugged the outlet cus I needed it right around the time the fix rolled out. So my question is do I need to do the restoring the Chromecast thing the people who did a factory reset did? It's a second Gen. I'm not testing anything right now cus it works on my laptop and in case it screws it up I'd much rather KNOW what the best move is.

Plugging it in will trigger the update
03-15-2025 11:33 AM
Please fix it asap, our entertainment hub totally shut down, our whole family rely on it only

Solution if you reset your device.
Set your phone date back before 7 mar 2025.
Open the Home app and configure the Chromecast.
The Chromecast will connect to wifi and update. And it will show the photo background and clock.
Set your phone date to auto again.
Test if casting works, if not, then give it more time to auto update and try casting again.
03-15-2025 11:39 AM
I got this when I was doing it
The update is taking longer than expected. Hang tight for a few moments or visit the Help Center for more information

It was done in less than 30 minutes here. But it is a lot of Chromecasts updating so i am not suprised if it takes longer.
Also check that your phone is back to normal time/date before trying to cast
You may also unplug and plug in again to trigger the update.
03-15-2025 11:50 AM
I recieved the update - that's why I could stream from my laptop. Now I can't. I'm gonna try this solution cus I don't feel safe trying to do it the regular way. I just tried to see if I had to do it like this.
Thank you 🙂

Check that your clock on the phone and computer has the right date and time, actual time now.
I have not experienced that exact problem, and all my Chromecasts are now up to date so I cant reproduce this error.
