Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Ho fatto reset come avevate indicato.

Ora dite che non bisogna farlo.

Non capisco quindi se il dispositivo è  connesso seppur non configurabile *per colpa di GOOGLE*.

Se avete messo un fine vita al dispositivo dovete rimborsare o fornire un altro dispositivo gratuitamente , altrimenti siete censurabile e perseguibili

Hi. Just a heads up. All my Chromecast audio are back up and online as of yesterday. I know you were accidentally at fault but Thankyou for the effort and time you have taken to fix the issue. I appreciate it. Thankyou again 

Mine were back up for all of a day and a half and now are doing the exact same thing again

There is a workarround to solve not casting from a computer to a tv.

Do it only from a chrimium webbrowser on the computer who you wanna cast from.

computer does not need to be in the google home app, but have a corded networkskabel to your wifi router.

 

your google home only needs the chromecast, on thevsame wifi.

omportat

use apps on mobile.

do not use netflix app, youtube app on tv.

works.

First thing what is always told to do from anywhere is the factory reset and I have done it many days ago now. If you're response would be more on time it would be different Matter😑 very upsett from this. This basically means I haven't got a tv for a week now and don't even know when I get it back.

If you scroll down, you’ll see how you can reconnect the chromecast to your WiFi. When I did it last night, I couldn’t stream right away. Woke up this morning and gave it a try and now I can stream it all!!!! Look for it and give it a try! You need to reset the time on your phone or tablet to before March 7th and then connect to your WiFi.

Eu ainda não consigo conectar o Chrome cast na TV e nem no celular. Infelizmente eu resetei domingo passado achando que seria problema com a internet.

This has been down for a week now. You are supposed to be one of the largest tech companies around and you can't fix a glitch like this? You have got me and millions of others looking for an alternative that has nothing to do with Google. I shall be replacing EVERYTHING associated with you because you made no warning, which meant people were tearing their hair out trying to fix what they thought was just their problem when all the time it was a global issue and you were sat on your fat corporate arses doing nothing. Set the date on your phone to a date before 9. mars. And then start all over again with your CC. Remember to set the correct time afterwards.

All Fixed, even the factory reset devices!

 

I have three Chromecast Audio device. I factory reset two before I saw the warning here. 

 

On Friday, the fix came through for the one Chromecast Audio device that was not factory reset.

 

Today, I was able to fix the two remaining Chromecast Audio devices!

 

By manually adjusting the date on my phone to the day before the Chromecast's security certificate expiration date (March 9, 2025, the root cause of the problem) I was able to set them up, allowing the firmware fix from Google to install. 

 

All of the (3) Chromecast Audio devices are now operating beautifully!

Bonjour

mon Google chromecast ne fonctionne toujours pas. Il est configuré et connecte au wifi mais mon téléphone ne peut pas communiquer avec lui. L’installation ne se finalise pas.

Le problème a commence dimanche dernier et comme je n’avais pas eu l’info d’un problème de mise à jour de votre appareil je l’ai réinitialisé. Que dois-je faire pour que cela fonctionne maintenant ? 1 semaine en panne !!!

Try to update your device date to 1st March 2025 and then connect chromecast to get updated.it will be working after taking time to update

Result! Had factory reset my device and disconnected Chromecast device from Home app before realising it was a general global fault earlier in the week, but couldn't reinstall as Home app on phone couldn't find device all week. Disconnected the cast at plug and TV, updated Home app on phone via Google Play store, plugged Chromecast back into both plug and TV, and managed to connect via laptop first last night after manually changing the date in laptop settings to march 8.  After that it connected fine to Netflix and YouTube. And now connects to my phone as well fine. Hope that works for others too.

It’s working again (in the Netherlands)! After a datefix on my phone yesterday to undo the factory reset, the chromecast is casting again today. So apparently, they’ve updatet something.

I managed to set mine up like this too, setting the date to March 7, 2025.

how do you change the device date? 

By changing the date on your phone and then you do a new setup to your chromecast from there

Go to your phone or iphone and then go to clock setting and set off update time from gps and set it to 1st march.then connect chromecast and update it.
