Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Mis Chromecast siguen sin funcionar.. no entiendo para que dicen que ya esta solucionado el problema si es no es cierto.. y de paso te dicen que sino hiciste reinicio de fábrica el más complejo volver a programarlo.. pero estoy segura que un gran porcentaje de personas que lo usan hicieron eso.

Chromcast 2nd gen. already facotry reset before reading the warning. As other users suggested I set back phone clock earlier than 8-Mar. Was then able to connect but when trying to Cast still not recognizing wifi network (missing/not finding device to cast...of course the same of phone). So not working yet. Looking for updates

I can confirm that the workarounds posted on Reddit and elsewhere will indeed restore Gen2 casting from Android devices and Chrome browser (sorry, iPhone users). I had mine back up 'n running by Monday morning. Not perfect, but for those who are impatient (and reasonably tech-savvy), it's a viable option until Google issues a proper security certificate fix.

Qué vergüenza de compañía Google!!!!. Se cargan los chromecast más antiguos así de repente. En plena víspera del partido de chamipons. Es increíble:!!!. Y se quedan tan tranquilos como si no hubiese pasado nada. Millones de usuarios sin poder acceder al servicio de los equipos que pagamos en su día.

This is a 2nd post, bc I would like to make you all aware at Google, that due to the very late notification (which I found via reddit,from something you all posted) , I only found out to not factory reset way too late. If I had been notified several hours prior this would have saved me me hours of my time & factory resetting both of my Google Chromecasts. I work in tech support & I find it completely unacceptable that this IMPORTANT detail wasn't made available sooner & that this is step wasn't removed from your Google ts steps. I now have 2 inoperable Chromecasts & 3 days later no resolve. What's the ETR? Will we be notified or will I have to search Google again?

Hi, unfortunately. When my google chromecast refused to work, I’ve resettled it…AFTER checking the internet if something was wrong worldwide. At that time, I couldn’t find feedback about it, so I thought I’d was an issue with my chromecast. The next morning there was information about the worldwide issue. Way too late! I don’t have money to buy a new one. If I was rich, I had a smart-Tv… I’m sad….

Hola, buenas tardes. Puedes volver a configurarlo si colocar fecha y hora previa al 9/3 en tu celular, luego lo reseteas otra vez y vuelves a configurar. A mi me funcionó y por lo menos tengo foros y un reloj gigante hasta que nos den una solución definitiva. Después vuelve a colocar fecha y hora automáticamente en tu celular. Espero ayudar, así como me ayudaron a mi. Saludos

Google says that they will explain what you need to do when they have a fix. At this point, they are NOT saying you have to replace it. Just wait for their fix.

I did the same, but just read a post about changing the date on your phone to before 9/3 (i think the reply above says this in Spanish) and tried the configuration again and it worked. Now I have the device set again: but I still can’t cast anything but at least it is now connected to my network

Eu sei que há uma pane no sistema do ChromeCast, mas eu espero que isso se resolva. Será má fé da parte do Google se este problema não se resolver. Isso é obsolescência forçada.
I know there is a glitch in the ChromeCast system, but I hope this gets resolved. It will be bad faith on Google's part if this problem is not resolved. This is forced obsolescence.
