Looks like this is indeed what happened. I unfortunately already factory reset my Chromecast coz of their instructions 😆 Here's hoping a fix comes soon.

It has something to do with time change 9Mar2025. If you did a factory reset, simply change the date and time on your phone to 8Mar2025 and reverse clock by 1 hour. Then set chromecast using Google Home on the phone with updated date and time. Once all done, reset date and time on your phone.

Thanks, I was worried sick about not getting the thing set up

I said date back to March 8th on my phone. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google home, but my Chromecast audio devices were still not recognized.
03-10-2025 05:26 PM
Wish I knew this before i factory reset 😞 now my phone can't even communicate with the Chromecast

Does anyone know if the Google tech folks know about and are possibly working on this? Sounds like many people are affected.

03-09-2025 11:12 PM

IDK wat it means but something weird I noticed about my 2gen chrmcst is that nothing else works I even after factory resets Wi-Fi restarts and all that s*** is my VLC app...it works consistently with no problem like five times in a row now so as far as mine goes VLC and 2nd gen Chromecast like each other
..

Suddenly my iPhone cannot connect to my chromecast - even though it is on the same local network. Can you help me????

Hey I’m having trouble casting to my Chromecast it was saying that it failed. I turned it off and back on and also tried resetting it. I deleted it on the google home app and now it won’t let me add it back in it finds the device but then fails once I click on it. Anyone know what’s going on?

Where will I find this fix when it is rolled out?
03-09-2025 11:54 PM
Hi from Australia. It seems I'm not alone in being unable to reconnect Chromecast to my home. I've tried all suggestions including the factory reset. It simply says unable to authenticate Chromecast, see support, which is kind of driving me crazy as there's no support to be had. It's been like this for approximately 13 hours now and I'm slowly losing my mind. Anyone manage to get it working?
03-09-2025 11:58 PM
I've had exactly the same experience. Very frustrating. I can't find any support or help either 😥

En Argentina igual, Creo que se a caído a nivel general, estamos todos en la misma y nadie sabe nada.

Toujours le même problème ce matin. Que faut-il faire ? Google va-t-il résoudre ce problème mondial ??
03-10-2025 12:12 AM
Same here. I've heard they stopped supporting 1st gen, but I assume they are still supporting 2nd gen? I have two of them, both showing slightly different firmware versions. The later version is still working for now. The earlier version stopped overnight.

私も全く同じです。3時間待って問合せチャットでやり取りしていたら『再起動してください』と言われて再起動してみれば、『操作が一定時間行われなかったため終了します』となっていて結局何も解決できていません。

I'm in Australia too. Just read it's now 'redundant' after 10 years
03-10-2025 04:59 AM
Fellow Aussie here as well.. mine just says "we couldn't authenticate your chromecast" and directs me to the help pages.. absolutely no use. I even deleted and tried to reinstall 1 of 2 Devices this is happening with.. can't even add the original chromecast back into my system.

Just bought myself an Amazon firestick. Google should treat their customers with a bit of respect

Same here spent all night going round in circles... Uninstalled app reinstall app; reboot Chromecast; checked network, reboted server; deleted set up and reinstall it. Did all that repeatedly, watched a video help; Tried partners phone, just the same... Nothing works, no help from Google. Arghhhhh

Same thing here in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. I tried everything suggested and more... Not working.

I'm in Michigan and having the same problem but with both my gen 2 chromecasts. They worked Saturday night, didn't work Sunday night. Now today (monday) I have tried everything I could find suggested online... tried to reinstall the devices on my Google home app from both my phone and tablet, deleted and reinstalled the app on my phone, rebooted my router, and did the factory reset on the chromecasts. And I still get the message that it cannot authenticate my chromecast. Very frustrating and no support what so ever. Any other suggestions on what do would be greatly appreciated.

Same issue here. No resolution. I'm in Canada
03-10-2025 05:30 PM
Seems its a firmware issue. Outdated ssl whatever that is. A partial workaround is to manually change the date of your phone/tablet to 7th march, reconnect in google home, then reset your date back to network auto. Wont allow streaming, but will allow the firmware fix. Apparently.

It's not us folks it is definitely them! They are currently working on fix... we probably tried factory reset... they say don't!
But if you have they will fix that too... eventually!

@GoogleNestTeam , do you have any news about solution?

chromecast does not work. I also reset to factory settings, but when I connect this error appears.
