Regarding audio and video not synced with Google TV Streamer

Hey everyone,

We are aware that some users might be experiencing an issue where audio is not synced with video from their Google TV Streamer. This appears to be related to specific audio equipment and configurations, and does not seem to be a widespread problem. We are actively looking into the issue, and will provide an update once we have more information.

In the meantime, if you are encountering this, we encourage you to contact Google Nest Support.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience. The team has identified the root cause for some of the key audio issues that users have reported. We’ve started to roll out a software update which includes a new feature that allows you to customize the output format settings that best fits your media setup.

Follow these steps to customize your preferred settings:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select Display & Sound > Audio options > Output format

You will be able to choose between Automatic (recommended), Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo.

Note: If Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo is selected, your media equipment (TV, A/V receiver, or soundbar) should also support this format to avoid audio or visual issues.

To manually download the latest update, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select System > About > System update

I also experience this problem and certainly do not have specific equipment. The previous chromecast worked fine.
My experience and after a number of tests it seems that when I come from the Netflix App the problem occurs.
As long as I do not go to Netflix it seems to work fine until I go back to Netflix, then the problem occurs again.

If I then go to the settings > Display and Sound > Audio options > adjust the Output format to "no surround" then it works again for a while. If the problem occurs again I set the option back to "automatic".

For me it seems to be in the Netflix App, but this may be different for others.

I hope they take this seriously at Google, because it is really annoying, for such an expensive device.

This still hasn't been fixed? I bought a Streamer at launch, and have audio/video sync issues since day one. I've scoured this forum, Google, and reddit looking for fixes.  I've literally done every recommendation on these forums; factory resets, used soundbar and just TV speakers, change audio output on the streamer to PCM, swapped HDMI cables, swapped HDMI inputs. Same issue, over time the audio starts to lag the video and my only fix is a reboot.

I figured Google would actually have this fixed by now, but unfortunately I'm out of my return window on the device. I'm in the Google ecosystem and really would like to have a streamer performing as advertised and as charged.

Update: The PCM-Setting solved my Sync-Problem. Tested for more than 2 weeks with 2 TVs.

Hi there. Update from Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to Google TV Streamer.  Image quality  is  amazing,  but why out of sync  audio? With  the old one, Chromecast with Google TV (4K), I don't  have this issue.  I read a lot  about  this problem.  How  about  a fix? Or just to send it  back, and  use the old  one?
