How come set up keeps “freezing” on the “Update Required” screen. Never moves beyond 0% ???

Hey there Cdwolg,

 

I'm sorry to hear that you are running into some update issues, I know those can be a headache to deal with. I'd be happy to help you get that fixed, let me just ask some questions to better understand the situation:

  • Have you set up this device before?
  • Was there a change in your network?
  • Is your Chromecast powered by a wall outlet?
  • Is your Chromecast within 15 feet from the router?

Then, since you marked that you have a 1st Generation Chromecast, make sure to use the HDMI extender that came with the Chromecast. Make sure that the HDMI extender is plugged into the Chromecast device and to the TV.
