I have just purchased a new Chromecast for my Toshiba TV however, I cannot for the life of me get it connected to the TV.

Once plugged in, I do get the start up ‘G’ and then black screen and then ‘no signal’.  I have connected it to my very old LG TV and it works fine, I have done all the updates from that connection and also connected it to the WiFi etc from there. However, once I plug it into my Toshiba TV…nothing.

I have had an older Chromecast plugged into the TV for ages and it works perfectly. I have checked and changed everything I can think of…now I need help with something I haven’t thought of yet!!!

I appreciate any assistance at all…thank you!

Is there a light on or flashing on your Chromecast device?   If so, it is powered and ready for you to set it up.

In that case, the problem is that you need to set your TV to use the input port that the Chromecast is attached to.  See if your TV remote has an "Input" or "Source" button.

If there is NO light on your Chromecast, it is not getting power.  Make sure you are using the power-block and cable that Google gave you.  Do NOT connect the Chromecast to any USB ports on your TV; they do not supply enough power for a small computer like your Chromecast.

Hi, thank you so much for responding!  Yes there is a light on, and I have checked 100’s of times I do have the correct input selected and I’m using the HDMI connection not USB. I promise I’ve checked everything….none of it makes any sense whatsoever.

If you have anything else I’m open to hearing it!

Thank you so much again for taking the time out to assist me!

Sorry, the USB I am talking about is for power.  Some people plug power cable that came with the Chromecast into a TV's USB port instead of using the power-block that goes into a wall-socket.  You must use a wall-socket to power the Chromecast.   Wall-outlet->power-block->power-cable->Chromecast->HDMI-cable->HDMI-port->TV-screen.

If you are doing that and nothing is working, the only things left would be to try a different HDMI port on your TV (in the slim chance that the port is actually bad) and check the color of the light against this list to make sure there isn't an error condition:

It is very odd that you say it works for one TV but not the other.

Last resort would be to ask for a replacement.  Use this to check your warranty and start that process:
