Surround sound not working for the Apple TV app on Chromecast with Google TV

I have a "Chromecast with Google TV" device (4K version) connected to an ARCAM AVR380 receiver. This receiver supports a range of surround sound modes and the surround sound works fine with Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV and Disney+ apps, however I cannot get it to work for Apple TV. I only yet stereo audio with the Apple TV app.

Is there a setting, that I cannot find, for the Apple TV app that needs to be configured to enable surround sound?

Surround sound has started working fine with the Apple TV+ app, with no changes by me. I am not at all sure what has fixed it, but it is working now.
