Is there a way to activate the 'power', 'input' or 'volume' controls from the Chromecast with Google TV via Google Home / Nest Hub? I have a dumb TV but it does respond to CEC. Unfortunately I can't do any voice control or automations without this unless I get an IR box or a new TV. It seems archaic given the Chromecast already has this function built-in.

No. The tv control buttons on the remote are IR. The voice control from the hub are controlling the chromecast directly and bypassing the remote.

My TV is configured to use CEC control, not IR. Surely the Chromecast should be able to send those commands from Nest hub.

Not all the time on all TV's. Look at the bottom of the link below for instructions, and go into your TV settings and make sure CEC volume control is on many older TV's only support CEC for power.

"Not all the time on not all TVs" is completely missing the point, but I guess you've answered my original question. Nest hub offers no CEC controls for any device that I can see. It 'should' be a simple implementation that would really help out smart home automation systems. Another miss for Google.

Hi there,
I appreciate your help here, kiltguy2112.
mbasden, we hear you. While this option isn't supported, we'll take this as feedback as we're always looking for ways to improve. You can also send feedback about this using the Google Home app. Here's how.
Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, we'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Thanks,
Jennifer
