TV will only turn off via Google 4K Streamer power button, not by voice command.

I recently connected a Google 4K Streamer to my Samsung TV.

All mostly works fine and I am very happy with the result. However, how can I get my TV itself to turn off when I say "Hey Google, turn off TV"?

When I issue this voice command the Streamer turns off and the "No Input" message appears on the TV screen. However one of the idiosyncrasies of Samsung TV's is that you cannot (AFAIK) set them to turn off when no HDMI signal is detected. The best you can do is to set an eco function to turn the screen off after 15 minutes of inactivity and lack of input.

However, if I turn off via the power button on the Google Streamer remote the TV shuts off.

Surely the command to turn off the TV via the remote should be the same as the voice command via the Google Home system?

The 4K Streamer has HDMI-CEC turned on and the TV has Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) activated.

Any suggestions on how, or if, it is possible to turn off the TV via voice?

Hi @Tattz!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your TV is not responding when you try to turn it off using voice commands. I'm happy to help you!

Let's try some troubleshooting steps:

  1. Make sure that your Google TV Streamer firmware version is updated.
  2. Make sure that your TV's firmware is updated by checking the TV user manual. You may also contact your TV manufacturer to verify.
  3. Switch the Streaming device to a different HDMI port.
  4. Unplug the TV, wait 10 minutes and plug it back in.
  5. Try turning off your TV again using the voice command.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi
