USB-LAN not work ATV14

Hello all,

it looks like devices with Google TV 14 no longer support USB3 to Gbit ethernet adapters (both the RTL8153 and AX88179). It's not only the Chromecast with ATV14, but it's also confirmed on Philips TVs with ATV14. Is this a bug in ATV14 or this was done intentionally?

On ATV 12 (and previous versions) this worked flawlessly. It does make sense to connect Chromecast via LAN cable. TVs are not mobile devices. It's better to connect them via cable where possible.

Hi dav_ru,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I understand that high-speed USB 3.0 adapters (Realtek RTL8153 and ASIX AX88179) are no longer being recognized by your Chromecast following the Android TV 14 update. I also acknowledge your observation that this same issue has been confirmed on Philips TVs running Android TV 14. I’m happy to assist you with this.

I have found a workaround reported by another user in this thread: Use This Method if External Storage no longer working after Android 14 update (CCwGTV). If you would like, you can try this at your own discretion. The user recommends turning off HDMI-CEC directly from the TV settings. To do this, I suggest reaching out to your TV manufacturer’s support team for tailored guidance on your specific model.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi, I tried these steps on my Philips TV running atv14 and still doesn't work. Really frustrating as it used to work flawlessly before the update that broke it.

Is Google working on a fix and when should we expect it? Or, can someone at Google advise what usb3-ethernet adapters are supported with atv14 and above?

Hi mikeyriot171,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I'm sorry to hear that the workaround didn't do the trick. I know how inconvenient it is when a setup that worked flawlessly suddenly stops after an update. We appreciate you giving it a shot and letting us know the outcome.

Regarding a specific fix or a list of supported adapters, we don't have that information available on our end just yet. However, Google is constantly working to improve device compatibility.

In the meantime, please share your experience directly with our development team through this feedback form. Your input will help us prioritize features and ensure that we're meeting the needs of our diverse user base.

Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Virna
